Has anyone ever camped at the Boca Chica beach just 25 miles east of Brownsville Texas. It looks like free beach camping. From the satellite photos it appears that driving on the beach is allowed.

Thanks for the links, I didn't know about "van flares". They are using one on each side to get the full width and not get too wide on each side. Kind of expensive though.

Just use the pour over coffee method, it gives great results. Heat you water with a propane burner. Like this.

I'm doing the same. I have an 8x8 hatchback tent, a tent that fits of the open hatchback of my car. So the car is the bedroom and the tent is the living room / kitchen. I may at some point get a van, but this works for now.

That would be true if the Prius had a straight axle, but it has independent suspension, so an air lift could double the ground clearance. Check the link in the OP.

If it was possible to lift the car from normal height up like that just the off road parts of a trip, that would be great. That would eliminate one of the biggest negatives about a prius camper.
