    Pirate Camp Winter Season '23-24

I’ve been looking for updates on what is happening at Van Aid, and am sorry to hear the few are ruining things for the many. And that y’all are sick. 😞 What has been loosely structured to this point may need some rules for the future, as so often happens when gatherings get larger and more...

    New to this

Also, start with a few basics and do some nearby camping out of your car. This will help you figure out what you, personally, need to have to live and travel comfortably in your car. All the best to you on this new adventure. ☺️

    Pirate Camp Winter Season '23-24

I got my shingles vaccine at my pharmacy a few years back, and the pharmacist when giving it to me said they’d seen people who got it in their eye and were blinded by it. Vaccines are a good thing.

Aspiring Minimalist, getting stuck on keeping items just in case.

A good rule of thumb is to take with you what you use, get rid of or store the rest, and reassess that every time you visit your storage unit.. With our first RV, an old Class C, I had every nook and cranny stuffed to the gills, just in case I needed something. 🙄 When we went to a van...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

Yes, and women who some considered too attractive to men and priests, could find themselves sentenced by the local priest to the Laundries for the rest of their lives. And those who tried to escape were hunted down by minders and returned to the institution. Bizarre, really, that this occurred...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

This article in the Washington Post this morning, about a mental institution in Maryland that operated from 1911-2004. Emphasis added by me. https://www.washingtonpost.com/books/2024/02/02/crownsville-antonia-hylton-asylum/ If a paywall prevents reading, this is what is relevant to the topic...

Here is Why You Must be INSANE to buy an RV These Days, Steve Lehto

Many buying new rv’s are enticed into long term loans, during which time their vehicle depreciates faster than the loan is paid off, leaving people owing more than their rig is worth if they have to sell. Is what I’ve been told by those who’ve fallen victim to this practice.

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

I believe that people in homeless shelters are by definition “homeless”, and are definitely included in a count. Shelters are temporary, time limited stays, for those without a permanent residence, some of them for overnights in bad weather, only. The homeless more likely missed are those...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

You’re right, it isn’t the numbers relative to total population, but the visibility, the how and where, that has become such an issue.

    Favorite food for cold weather

I have made a really delicious but simple tomato basil soup from scratch, that used canned tomatoes and you took an immersion blender to it at the end. You wouldn’t even have to blend it if you didn’t mind the chunks. I’ll see if I can find the recipe. This looks similar to the one I have at...

UK narrowboaters whistful for the USA

I have been thru Sioux Falls, and it is beautiful, and one of many gorgeous spots around our fair country. If you get here with your RV, you could spend several months roaming around and still not see everything of interest, but it’s all interesting, in my opinion. Every part of the country...

UK narrowboaters whistful for the USA

Oh, hi there, and welcome!!! How fun, kindred spirits from across the pond. ☺️ I’m widowed almost 10 years, getting ready to head south in an older ClassB, looking to be gone about 2 months…about a half-timer, on a good year. One of my late husbands and my dreams was to ship our ClassB to...

    Pirate Camp Winter Season '23-24

Yep, go in a Prompt Care or an ER, get checked over and ask for a prescription for Paxlovid. About a year ago, that’s what I did on day 3 of symptoms. Paxlovid knocked it out quickly, but don’t dally because too far into your illness it is not effective. It is possible your PCP would send...
