Things to leave behind when RV/Camping

And you’ve resurrected this issue on a new thread, still citing a single opinion regarding shelling in Aruba, where it is apparently illegal for environmental reasons. Beach environments are different, and I believe that if gathering seashells were harming the environment on any given beach in...

    Social security

As to what this cut constituted: https://www.ssa.gov/history/taxationofbenefits.html#:~:text=Congress passed and President Reagan, was made potentially taxable income. “Under the '83 Amendments, up to one-half of the value of the Social Security benefit was made potentially taxable income.” I...

    SEASHELLS!!

I think sometimes a bed of whatever are disgorged and tossed onto the sand by the waves. Often, when you find one kind of shell, there will be similar others nearby, as I have seen with whelks and also olives.

Do you wade out into the surf looking for these, Jonny?

    Am I missing anything?

I am a longtime devotee of microfleece for unbeatable warmth that doesn’t require any power source. Fleece clothing, socks and a sleeping bag liner keep me warm and cozy every winter trip. Lightweight and washable, too. ☺️

How do you stretch your income?

I have subscribed to the free BookBub site for several years, which is an excellent resource for free and very inexpensive ebooks for my Nook and Kindle apps. https://www.bookbub.com/ I only let them send me a list of books once a week, but generally read only ebooks I have gotten from this...

I’m the same way, Carla, also with anything math. My eyes literally start to cross, and I’m done.

And, ya know, the more consistently I avoid processed food and eating out, the better my labs look. So, there’s also that.

    SEASHELLS!!

There are lots and lots of whelks on the shore this year, apparently, as people who have been here awhile have picnic tables with many displayed. Something in the sea may be the reason, but I don’t have that kind of knowledge base. ☺️

How do you stretch your income?

I try to only buy meat that is on sale/reduced for quick sale, shop WalMart for staples and non perishables, take advantage of good sales at more expensive grocers, make ALDIs a regular stop, and to spend less every month than I have coming in, transferring anything that is left into savings...

Medicare as a Nomad in 2024

I don’t really understands the ins and outs of enrolling in this, that and the other, but as a half time or so nomad I can tell you that I have been on Medicare almost 10 years and have had no trouble obtaining labs, prescriptions, emergency and non emergency care anywhere in the country.

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

An interesting article about a proposition in California that would reinstate involuntary confinement of the mentally ill. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/mar/01/california-mental-health-care-policy From the article: “In the 1960s, we began the process of shutting down our...

I have had a couple of payment issues with PayPal vendors, which PayPal has promptly acted on and in my favor.

I have also used PayPal without problems for years, to make specific and automatic payments, but would not establish savings with them, just on principle.

TX Gulf beach camping during summer

I drove down there from Winnie, much easier than going thru Galveston, and have usually been there on weekdays. The last time was a Friday and Saturday, two years ago, and while it was busier and more families with kids, there was no trouble I was aware of and the beach was shared very...

TX Gulf beach camping during summer

If you get down to those Texas beaches, you will see a large expanse of packed sand on which vans, cars, RV’s can and do park safely. The areas closer to the dunes, not so much, and someone told us our very first trip down there in 2008 or so that pulling one off the sand is considered...
