    Microwave_what do u cook?

700 watt microwave here in the van is used to rewarm food and reheat coffee. That's all folks. Between the 800w coffeepot and that, I don't take the 450ah of batteries below 70-75%. I also use the 310w ricemaker on sunny afternoons with the spare electricity. Cloudy days or anything more...

    Pee bucket

This is what I use for pee (I'm a chick). I use this for peeing and before I use the bucket for #2.  What stinks worst is when you mix urine and feces together. By keeping them separated,  I can tolerate odor until I empty the **** bucket the next morning (when I haven't been able to easily...

    Electrical for Van Conversion

I used "Sailboat Electrics Simplifed" by Don Casey. I'm a visual person, but videos do not work very well for me. Along with reading the electrical forums here on CRVL, the book was invaluable.  Black and white illustrations,  diagrams and easy to understand tables.  It's 20 years out of...

    Van vs travel trailer

We have both, travel trailer and van. During shoulder seasons and summer, we travel exclusively in the van. Wintertime, we stay in the trailer as it is easier to stay warm, even in Southern Arizona and New Mexico. The van is only marginally comfortable down in the lower 20s with the Wave 3...

    Tired of driving?

On the old fart 2-2-2 plan here, especially the 2 day or more required stay. Unfortunately I have to get to Phoenix quarterly for specialist medical appointments. Those days, we drive up to seven hours at a time from our current "home base". Generally, though, we break that in pieces by...

Women Only WOMEN ONLY: Life Has Become Mundane, Can You Identify??

The only thing scarier than going on the road was NOT going on the road. I was suffocating. My dad died at 61. I was widowed at 36. My sister died at 53. The thought of wasting the rest of my life on the mundane was terrifying. My kids were done (baked to 325°), I kicked 'em out and sold the...

SwivelsRus install on Nissan NV 2500-lengthy Part 1

" I have been wanting to add a swivel to my Nissan for some time now and had a hard time finding one. Can you please tell me how much height is added to the seat by the swivel?" 3". It really made a big difference in visibility, given how low and back the seats are. I'm 5'8" and have to sit...

    Santa Fe spot?

I just drove through both the Riverside campground at Caballo Lake and Percha Dam and the sites with electric are now 100% reservation only. So if you want electric, you'll need to go online and make a reservation at $12 a shot. At Elephant Butte, 100% of Quail Run and Desert Cove are...

    How Much Smell

RogerD, I too would like to know where you got that urine diverter. Women of a certain age (and having borne children) are often unable to not pee while pooping. Inquiring minds want to know.

Is silicone sealant OK to use inside a van?

I'm not sure how this translates to humans, but my son managed to kill an aquarium using household silicon. I guess there's a nontoxic one that is used for fish tanks and terrariums. Likely expensive, but probably as benign as you're gonna get. Ted

Question on long term low wattage vs short term high wattage

Hey Quietone, I knew nothing about solar when I started looking into vandwelling three years ago (I'm a sixty year old RN). I started reading and reading and reading. I did use YouTube for a couple of questions, but I do better with the written word. I knew what I wanted to use in the vans...

Question on long term low wattage vs short term high wattage

I have one of those collapsible silicone kettles (800w) and one of those baby crockpot warmers. I use the crockpot for cooking oatmeal (long cooking pinhead). I put the oatmeal, salt and water in when I go to bed at midnight and it's ready in the morning. When we're traveling in Hubby's van...

Where to park while converting your vehicle?

Spent a month and a half doing work on van and trailer on BLM land. We used a three person tent as our "storage and parts garage". Ted

Sit, Stay, Good Girl/Boy! 14 days of poop

Sorry for late reply. Been out of cell range for a while. I have a super sensitive nose. When the **** bucket is used just once, the smell seems impregnated into the plastic. I give it a spray and whip of Lysol and then leave it and the seat in the sun for a day. Any odor is completely gone. Ted

    stelth camping with a dog

My dog only barks once or twice a week. But I got her when she was only 2 months old and I knew that I would be taking her stealth camping. All she needs is for me to make a quiet verbal click and tiny hiss and she doesn't move or make a peep. I'm not quite sure how she learned that, but as the...

Fight a grizzly with a penknife!

Hubby's great with articles from Facebook. This one is about a guy successfully fighting off a grizzly when he ran into one. Unfortunately,  the bear had to be put down. https://news.yahoo.com/man-fights-off-grizzly-bear-104057714.html

    I killed them-but how?

Once I isolated the "hot" battery from the other two, I turned the solar back on and the system voltage now matches the output of the charge controller. I haven't been able to inspect or test the bad battery because I can't yet get it out from under the bed (60#). Maybe mañana when it's cooler...

    mattress cooler?

Ive had Amazon delete my 1 star reviews before. Very valid complaints for expensive items. I take the reviews with many grains of salt now. Ted

    I killed them-but how?

MYSTERY SOLVED! I turned off the solar panels to the batteries last night and this morning the resting voltage looked good (12.7v). I stated going through my diagnostics, everything looked as expected. The voltages on the batteries were all in range with each other. No corrosion, wires all...
