Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

No, I’m not aware of that. But why does that undermine my point. My point is that these folks should be involved in the organization. Perhaps the biggest topic is best practice on build technique.

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

There are some still outstanding issues with the original producer of Bob’s YouTube channel. I’m fact I believe the individual who also started the Van Build tradition. As to the forum, it is a group of engaged and informed individuals who are NOT respected by the organization.

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

As I recall they tried to start something in the SE, but I don’t recall the year exactly. These is exactly the sort of thing that a membership organization would be sensitive to, and there are many more. I’m around a fair bit in the community, I’ve had only one informal discussion with a...

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

It’s about democracy, something a certain generation seems to have lost sense of, and for some reason feel the need to passively aggressively attack those that speak to it.

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

What makes you think I don’t already do that? What makes this a ‘whine’ rather than an informed effort to build a better leadership voice. What makes your post NOT a passive aggressive voice. For one, try looking at my history of posts on this forum and compare that to the engagement of the...

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

Van Aid It is HOWA’s decision how to proceed. I do object to assertions that they are the voice of the community, whether explicit or implicit. Good communities are built on informed participation, not unquestioned authority. Yeah, the work they do for the vulnerable community is great...

Should HOWA be a Membership Organization?

With the conclusion of another successful RTR focused on providing newcomers valuable information I’d like to ask if HOWA should be doing more than that. The simplest answer to that question is yes, but exactly what it should be is a matter of debate. As a leadership community organization it...

    Van Aid 2023 - Plomosa Road - Feb 2 to Feb 16

That’s what it is now, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are issues as to the path HOWA followed to get there.

    Van Aid 2023 - Plomosa Road - Feb 2 to Feb 16

A great event, a little bit more constructive than some of the party events but looser, and maybe more skilled, than the RTR.

Where would you go to live temporarily while finding a new rig?

Worst case is to move into a shelter. I have done so, and was the better for it. Just make sure you NEVER drink with anyone, and staff will also respect your sobriety. You can get by without a vehicle in Quartzsite, but it’s a long way to travel for something that will still have challenges.

Mail in the desert - which LTVA

I’ve used hold for pickup in Havasu. I don’t recall the details, but their posted hours were also pretty limited. There should always be someone there first thing in the morning as that is the busiest time.

Use an old phone as a dash cam & more

They need a dedicated power source and are subject to overheating - in my experience.

    Federal Benefit Programs

Assets can be placed in trusts, which requires a lawyer and a third party to initiate. I believe there is an exception for something called a pooled asset trust which can be set up by an individual. Does anyone have any experience with those?

    Solar panel wiring

I’m not familiar with 36 volt panels, do you have a link to a product page? In my 24v case, the cost savings of wire and controllers makes a serial connection the better choice. Typically simple residential systems are limited to 48v in part for safety. There are lots of 24v and 48v products...

    SSI Increase for 2023

Yeah, both food and fuel have been riding faster than average inflation. In my State there have though been other benefit increases, plus the affordable connectivity program.

Liviing in Arizona vs Alabama with Environmental?

You want to keep that section 8. Transferring across State lines is more difficult than an instate transfer, and likely vary. You can still be a nomad, but it takes a large portion of your discretionary income. Personally, I would not transfer to a community that I didn’t know well.

How do u live on $700/month, truly?

If you are full time you classify as homeless for affordable housing purposes, and get a boost in the waitlist. That waitlist can still be long, but just about everyone should do this at some point. Choose a community you like, and have some connection to. If you don’t have a connection...

    Best Blanket

I’m a fan of the mummy bag as blanket approach, including the toasty foot box. I just bought one of these, synthetic and inexpensive. ALPS makes a variety of models. https://www.backcountry.com/alps-mountaineering-crescent-lake-sleeping-bag-20-degree-synthetic

Do You Carry the 1 lb Propane/Small Butane Canister on Its Side or Upright?

I use the one lb canisters as backup to my single 20 lb tank and only use them when the 20 is empty. As such I have them in storage for extended periods. I’ve never worried about it in the slightest and never had a problem. I also use them in sun in a diagonal position. I do always buy...
