I did this for a number of election cycles at a very, very busy polling location, working as much as 13 hours a day for the ten day early voting periods. Honestly, I loved it! (And, yes, there was some drama from time to time.) I know you'll do a good job, and hope you enjoy the experience.

That's what I thought, too. So far, it's been working fine. The hose is not a super tight fit, so maybe there's just enough airflow around it?

What is YOUR favorite FAN in the VAN so you CAN stay cool OR other small cooling devices?

Gr8ful, I appreciate it. Without your help, this could have blown right past me!

Thank you for updating us on your choice. East Texas is my go-to-get-away, and I love it--except when it's muggy and buggy, or warmy and stormy, or when I get "blessed" half to death. Oh, well. It has trees!

Thank you for letting us know. That is a beautiful quote, BTW. I had not heard it before, and find it inspiring.

Water, water... The Once Van had very little space for water works. The base unit could only be about 14" high. We used a 6 gallon jug, a hand pump (you know, the one with the big blue push top), a small sink, Camco drain, and a cat litter jug in a plastic tote. The tote also held a hot...

Great article (yea! Mother Earth News)! Wish I had seen this before starting my first batch. Lots of different information out there, but the recommendations here make a lot of sense. Thanks!

You inspired me to pop into Dollar Tree and pick some of these up. The store I went to is a Dollar Tree/Family Dollar combo. The seeds were on the Family Dollar side, selling for $1.

It's really up to you. You could use regular seeds, but they contain some chemicals you might want to avoid. By the time, say, a broccoli plant grows to it's full size, the amount of those chemicals still in the plant is considered to be relatively harmless (depending on whom you ask). In...

Suggestion: Consider splitting that into two containers, or carrying a spare gallon. You know... Eggs in one basket and all that.

I'm just beginning to explore microgreens, and have only scratched the surface in terms of understanding how to grow and enjoy them. My understanding is that, yes, they are very immature vegetable plants, only grown to between 1" and 3" tall, then harvested with scissors. For me, the intent...

Are you thinking, maybe, about sprouts? Also very yummy, and van-able, but much more water intensive. More about microgreens later, if I can get back online.

Anybody growing microgreens? Seems reasonably van-able. I just started my first batch yesterday. Who knows?!

Hey Peter! Sounds like you're off to a good start! Personally, I think a conversion van is a great platform. We traveled part time in a '96 standard length, standard height Regency for 15 years and it served us very well. Take advantage of the opportunity to take your time making...
