    Buying Land

How do you find places that aren't popular with them? I think that must only be places where they aren't legal... or places I wouldn't want to camp anyway. Even with the greatly increased number of campers, I find those easy to avoid... but not the SxSs.

Hi, I have a lot to learn

What makes a person free would be an interesting philosophical discussion. IME having way less stuff and living in a vehicle in the wilderness helped a lot. Getting my external environment in sync with the internal. Also, a house isn't necessarily an appreciating asset. It's true that a lot of...

Remote Work in 2025 and Beyond

Socio-economic changes take decades to reach fruition. That's what I'm speaking of. The people who are comparing the 30s-40s to the 50s-70s or even now, will not think anything was great about it, but there was a rapid climb in living standards through those decades. Of course the later part...

Remote Work in 2025 and Beyond

Yes the roaring 20s, but only the rich got rich then... followed immediately by economic collapse... which was followed immediately by huge policy and taxation changes that focused on benefiting the average person, economically. No one would have thought the 30s were great, because there was a...

Remote Work in 2025 and Beyond

That's just true. It's also true that the average person isn't "changing the world" by any stretch of the imagination. That wasn't the great period. The "Great Period" started in the 30s and lasted til the late 70s... The only time in history when the average worker saw an increase in real...

2000 w power station and "widdle ol' " cigarette lighter?

It's really not complicated. As was mentioned, a 12v lighter socket in your rig should be good for at least 100W, and the DC charging circuit on your power station should take this into account. So you can charge your PS at a 100W rate using a socket if you don't have other loads. Check the...

    Buying Land

Planning for anything in retirement is kinda silly... except for making sure your finances are in order. The future population of the US is highly dependent on how many immigrants they let in. Since that didn't work out so good recently, I wouldn't bet on that tactic being tried again anytime...

    Buying Land

No one has a lot of privacy and peace on 40 acres unless it happens to be where no one wants to live. I grew up in the middle of 360 acres, so I know how far that gets you from your neighbors (not very). But it's all relative... the important part is that I can camp in places that are far more...

    Buying Land

If that is true, it's because no one wants to live there (yet), not because they can't. If we are too old to camp and travel in a rig, we are too old to deal with a remote homestead. I still don't have any trouble camping miles from other campers, but those damn SxS ATVs!!! ...are everywhere...

    Buying Land

40 acres, but she says it's in CO? ... someplace where it's deserty and pretty treeless. East side maybe? Has a trout stream near, which is cool. I've been looking at 40 acre parcels and though that is a nice size, it doesn't put your neighbors (or potential neighbors) that far away. If it's...

Here is Why You Must be INSANE to buy an RV These Days, Steve Lehto

The make and model of your rig is not something that anyone would key off of, or even remember. Plus if you are isolated, no one would see you. Anyway... blanket disparaging of vans, box trucks, and ambulances is just silly... when I'm pretty certain that your rig is built on the same chassis.

Hi, I have a lot to learn

Just make sure you get some practice and are comfortable with your setup, and have a solid way to make money. And don't be broke when you leave, either! Having your "home" break down and need repairs is annoying enough when you can afford to have it fixed... and a big problem if you can't...

Here is Why You Must be INSANE to buy an RV These Days, Steve Lehto

If your gonna talk up your RV, you at least gotta tell us what it is! Most of them have terrible ground clearance, and the bodies and interiors are so poorly constructed that they fall apart on rough roads, leak, etc.

    Dry Flush Toilets

^Ya'll are starting to convince me that if I ever do buy some land I can put a hovel on, I might just get a composting toilet instead of digging a hole! Ya know... be almost civilized. (y)

Out of All 1996-2004 Full-Size Vans Models, Which is Easiest To Repair?

@Gr8ful had a SRW ambulance for sale over a year back... with a NA 7.3 diesel in it I think. All mechanical. Don't know if he still has it. Hard to find, but I really like the 90s T100 Toyotas. Can be had with a 4cyl or small v6 and stick. Almost full size and with a stiff boxed frame like the...

    Throwing tennis balls at coyotes...

I got it pretty young... I doubt it had ever been out of the culvert, and I was able to outrun it. If you take a puppy from a litter at a similar age, that is surely a traumatic experience as well... but dogs have hundreds or thousands of generations of domestication and bonding with humans...

    Throwing tennis balls at coyotes...

Unusual looking hybrid for sure. I don't know about owning though. I caught a baby coyote when I was a kid, and tried for several months to make a pet out of him, and he never got tame at all. Never bit me but he didn't like me, and always tried to run off. I turned him loose in the woods...
