    Road-Trip Across the Southwest

I was planning on a trip of the southwest next March or April. Thanks for the information.

    Hi from Tennessee

Hi and welcome. I don't live in my van, I only take trips of 10-14 days. I drive many miles (average 3500-5000 miles) on my trips, so gas is most of my cost. At least 50-60% of my days are spent driving. I average about $100 a day when I travel. My very first trip was about 2000 miles and I...

    Pop top or not?

Bryan, I have the same situation as you do. I am 6' and I own a 2016 Ford Transit Connect, so I am constantly hunched over. I have looked at upgrading to the high top van, but they are over 40,000 new. It would also no longer fit in my garage and renovations to make that possible would be...

Side fold futon or rear to front tri fold bed??

Most people do well with a plywood platform bed, but as a disabled vet with back issues.....it was far too rigid regardless of matress types. We visited an old military fort dating back about 100 years and saw they had rope beds. I decided to try that and it works great for me. Its firm and...

Side fold futon or rear to front tri fold bed??

I agree with tx2sturgis and some of the others, I also hate making and taking down beds. When I was building mine out I too looked at the idea of folding up my bed to make more room. I found myself moving things out of my van and putting them in the front seats every day in order to make my...

Why didn't I think of it...

Anyone over the age of 18 have made decisions that sounded good at the time but you later regret. One true fact about history, no matter how much energy you focus on the past......you can never change it. My wife and I have been together for nearly 40 years and we both know the importance of...

    sidewall mount for vent fan

My only concern would be rain, but if you can work around that....sounds good. If you are mounted on the side....and there is a stiff wind.....would that be an issue?

    America's Quietest Roads

We just got back from Lousiana. Interstate 12 through Baton Rouge has billboards about every mile about calling a lawyer if you are in an accident. I see an accident on a 20 mile stretch of this road EVERY time I am down there. o_O We drove a stretch of highway from Sheppard AFB....through OK...

    Best adventures and places!

I feel the same way about Dallas! I am so stressed out by the time I get out the city.......it takes me hours to cool down.

    Best adventures and places!

The primary ways......yes.......but not the only way. I am a very detailed person, so this may sound like over kill for some people. Once I got the traveling bug, about 5 years ago, I bought the road map and a national park passport book. I then began plotting my trips. I located every...

    Best adventures and places!

Looking at the map, I have traveled some of those miles. Most appear to take you down major interstates and through major cities.......something I tend to ignore. I will travel an extra 20-30 miles to avoid going through major cities. :p

    Illness, accidents and medications

I travel by myself, my wife maintains the home base. I am retired and a disabled vet. If I don't feel good, I look around for the nearst VA treatment location. I can refill my meds at the VA centers. I was traveling last June and began suffering from from the excessive heat and found myself...

    Best adventures and places!

I get the "starting fresh" with every trip I go on. I'm not a full time van dweller, instead I travel on trips of 10-14 days at a time. The first day I set out I am excited on what I will find "around the next corner" as I travel. My trips are carefully planned out and take me to the sites I...

    Definitely doing it!

Welcome! Just like you, I took my dream and made it a reality too. I am not full time, I simply like taking trips of 10-15 days. Without a plan, a dream is only a dream. You are heading in the right direction. Good luck and keep us posted.:p

    New to forum

I started planning my travel trips several years ago. I bought a national park passport book and planned to visit every place in the book. It didn't matter if I had seen it before or not. I bought a road map that has all 50 states and highlighted each place on the map. I also identified...

My First Van & My $$$ for Vehicle Living.........

I served from 80-95 and I still use the VA for all my medical needs. If you were divorced from the gov, I hope they are paying you good alimony!! :ROFLMAO:

    New guy here.

If it's been sitting in a garage since 2006, an overall inspection would be my best advice. Vehicals that sit a long time might have internal rust issues, dry root tires, and varmints might be living in the vehicle some where. As stated above, take it to a mechanic have them do a good review...
