How much water do you use for showers?- survey

I'm a retired soldier, so I have learned to do clean up with little or no water. I also keep my hair very short, making it easier to clean. Since I began traveling I have used a product similiar to skunky wipes. They use a little water to activate the soap and spounge bathe. I make use of...

Hi, I have a lot to learn

It can be as wonderful as you make it. Regardless of the amount of planning you do, things will go wrong. Don't let the failures get you down, instead look at them as challenges and learn from them. I have been to places where the weather forecasts showed good weather and it ended up with...

    Forced Retirement

My retirement was sort of forced upon me, in as much as they made the job undesirable. I took retirement at age 60 but it had been in the plans for years. I sprung in on my boss 2 weeks before I left. Good planning, good investments, and good streams of income without having to touch my...

What are your essential thing you look for.

I have always disliked crowds, for me its about a spot where there are a few people but not too many. Bathroom and showers are always a plus but not necessary. I like to see life....animals, trees, and running water. Cell serivce is a major plus because it's how I communicate with my family...

A Dream Come True!... With the Undertones of a brewing panic attack

As the saying goes.......be careful what you wish for! You have a nice clean slate to work with, good luck.

    apple this, apple that

When we lived in Maryland, we lived right down the road from an apple orchard. They made so many things.......apple cider, pies, turnovers, cobblers, ect. I love a good apple crisp.......or baked apples.

    How are the Ford Transits?

I had a 2016 Ford Transiet Connect for a couple of years and then upgraded to a 2019 Ford Transit 250 to give me more room. I stand 6' tall and the high top gives me plenty of room to stand up. I haven't had any problems with either van. The only concern I have with my new van is no cruise...

    Which is easier?

I like to plan my trips around the weather. My ideal day is 70-80 degrees and my nights 45-60 degrees. I have always been a little cold blooded and can be seen wearing shorts and T-shirts year round. When others are wearing light jackets, I feel very comfortable. With that said, to answer...

    Gray water... why?

I also have never had to wash my clothes, but then again I don't live full time on the road. If I plan to take a trip for 18 days, I pack enough clothes to last 20. I use a generic brand of Skunky, a soap soaked wet wipe. Just add a little water and it lathers up for a towel bath. I use...

Dating and van life. How does one go about this?

My wife is similar in that she wants to stay in "comfortable" locations........RV parks with full hook ups or hotels. I'm just as comfortable in a Walmart parking lot. What to talk about........just talk about things you would talk about with your friends. Talk about your travels, points of...

Where to park, camp, shower etc

I travel too. I actually traveled through the Dakotas in Late July. Lot of open spaces up there and felt very comfortable with where ever I stayed.

    Gray water... why?

I travel so I don't stay anywhere longer than an overnight. As part of my packing up for the road is to dump my gray water, which is usally less than a gallon. I also dump my urine bottle if there is no bathroom near by. I don't dump solid waste or food scraps.

Dating and van life. How does one go about this?

It's been years since I dated and it was a challenge being in one place, so I can only imagine how difficult it would be to on the road. I'm not looking to date, I'm happily married for 40+ years.......but traveling can get lonely. When I see people on the road, I love to say hi and try to...

What do you do with all of your free time?

Morgana said: I hope that @Tony's Dream weighs in, because IIRC he really mapped out a plan in advance so he might have some pointers. But how much to plan vs. how much to wing it, that's different for everybody. Remember........a dream is only a dream without a plan. My plans were not carved...

    Van Life & Air Conditioning

I installed an portal AC unit this summer and took it out to Glacier. Didn't need it until I hit South Dakota where the high was 103. I went to an RV site and used shore power, as stated above....my house battery could not handle the load. Even on full, it only lowered my inside temp to 82...

I collect foreign coins and currency. I also collect penny press coins, but they are becoming a thing of the past.

    Entering a vanlife retirement.

You might be able to obtain a 911 address from the local sheriff office. They are responsible for doing that in most states. But as you said.........once you start down that path, the tax man will soon follow.

    Very new

I started out in a cargo van. I stripped and converted it myself. I took several trips, totalling over 10,000 miles. It was a little tight for my old man body, not being able to stand up fully, so I upgraded to a high top van last August. I stripped and converted it myself. I have taken...

Minor solar assistance needed. Everything working except 12 volt outlets..Dont think they were wired correctly. Simple cargo van, no build out

You have a house battery that is wired to the 12 volt outlets and is being charged by the solar panels? Are your outlets wired through a fuse box or wired directly to the battery? I use a 12 volt fuse box with everything wired through it. If you are using one of these and all units are not...
