So maybe ... moving the political posts to a separate section, while a good idea to try, isn't working out as hoped? Maybe we should go back to the stricter "no politics" rule? Seriously, nonpolitical spaces like this one are a rare treasure these days and I suspect they're about to get rarer...

The saguaros are blooming, they look like prickly Maypole dancing girls.

    What are YOU listening to??

@rruf Thanks for the earworm, man --- whether it's the earworm from hell or heaven I can't decide, any more than I could 50(!) years ago. I think I'm getting a contact high just from listening to them giggle.

    Getting Lazy Why...

This got me curious about whether there are biodegradable toothpastes (or would a purist or long-term user have to worry about spitting it on the ground). Apparently there are tons of them. I don't usually like to say "just Google it" but in this case I don't want to recommend any one product...

    Getting Lazy Why...

So I have a new dentist and she says I am flossing too hard. Every time my old dentist read the riot act about flossing I'd go home and floss harder, now this one says you can wear grooves in your teeth. Who knew? My teeth genes are about like Cy's so I am really trying to do this right. Easier...

Oh, man, does that bring back memories! I'll see your Sylvia's Mother and raise you Roland the Roadie and Gertrude the Groupie

    What are YOU listening to??

When @rruff said in another thread "it's all in the mind" I immediately thought of the Diamond Rio song "It's All in Your Head" ("We never walked on the moon / Elvis ain't dead / You ain't goin' crazy / It's all in your head"). It's always been one of my favorites.

Calling all knitters -- this is literally a "how long is a piece of string" question but please work with me on it if you're willing and able (and if you're not willing and able, feel free to sit this one out). How much wool do I need for a knitting project? Say we can be flexible what the...

    Social security insolvency 2033

I was real worried about making "too much" money once I went on Social Security (and kicking myself into the penalty tax bracket). So far it hasn't been a problem lol. I suppose if I did more marketing ... but then I'd have to work more

    New and dreaming

You're making plenty of sense; don't worry about that. In the hardest moments of my life, I thought "I could be going through all this -- and taking care of kids." So, respect on that front. Everybody has unique challenges and finds unique solutions, so I don't want to belabor this too much...

    New and dreaming

Travis McGee, the hero of the John D MacDonald mysteries (The Deep Blue Goodbye, One Fearful Yellow Eye), always said he was taking his retirement in installments. Maybe your camping trips are like Travis McGee's retirement. May the camping trips get longer and the times in between get shorter...

    Mexican car insurance

I bought it two days ago and haven't had any claims. (Have you, since you're asking?) I paid just over $200 for the year. I don't think mine was limited to a specific part of Mexico -- I had an eye on that, but not a close one since I'm not currently planning on traveling outside that area.

So I finished organizing the Augean Stables (aka storeroom of a small US-run nonprofit in a Mexican border town). It was hot and sweaty and this mob of adorable little kids kept interrupting “Hey, Americana – can I have this? can we play with that? what is this? can you reach down that thing...

    Mexican car insurance

Not like I do on the US side. I was more concerned with being legal (and not having to ask for rides from people I'd rather not ask for favors from, how mature is that? lol) than with the actual coverage. For now, I'm only going about 10 blocks in 1x/week, so hopefully my lack of due diligence...

As much as I know it for any US-side company. As/more important, it's what's accepted legally.

    Mexican car insurance

So I had heard two versions -- some people bought from a local agent (gas station or convenience store) and were happy with what they got, others bought online directly from the insurance co., which they thought was cheaper because the local vendors supposedly charge a big convenience fee. I...

Volunteering again ... there must be a 12-step program for this:ROFLMAO: -- if there's any gnarlier relations on this planet than between altruists, I don't know who or where . I'm getting better (I hope) at not taking that part of it so seriously. I'm supposed to be reorganizing a...

Well, @bullfrog ! , you have the thanks of a grateful nation, or at least a few dental patients (assuming she's any good at that ;) So easy to start feeling invincible when you're inside a car... and to start thinking of nature like an amusement park. I got lost once on some logging roads in...
