Colorado US Forest Service - Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts - Request for comment

It just doesn't work like that. Drunk driving, texting while driving, littering, et.al. People don't listen unless they can legitimately expect to be punished for disobedience.

I think this is what the FS and BLM will be going to in popular areas. See Alabama Hills as an example.

    Break-in or theft

I'd rather not modify my vehicle. With all the computers and interconnects in today's vehicles you better be sure of what you are doing. Popping the hood is a lot less cumbersome than finding your vehicle gone. Takes two minutes and doesn't permanently modify anything.

    Break-in or theft

Your best insurance is driving something that doesn't appear worth much. In my younger days I would simply pull the coil wire and throw it in a backpack pocket. Now, I would just stuff a plastic bag or two over (or under, depending on air flow direction) the flat air filter.

    Register Van as RV?

My insurance company asked if this was my primary or a second vehicle. They also asked if the home address given is where the vehicle is normally parked.

Any data on daily usage for refrigerators?

I can go 2 days of minimal solar charging before I need to address the batteries condition (60% or less). I do spend significant time in the Black Hills under heavy forest canopy. I have 3 ways to recharge: solar, inverter/generator, shore power. If I get to the end of the day at ~60% I will...

Any data on daily usage for refrigerators?

Sounds about right. I have 200W solar and 12V, 210AH battery (=2400WH), 12V, 2.4 cu.ft. compressor fridge as biggest draw. I am seldom below 80% in am and usually back to 100% by noon.

    Social security

It is my observation that each succeeding generation after WWII is more emotionally fragile than the last. When I was very young our church sponsored two families from Poland. Those children witnessed horrors that kids now need trigger warnings to avoid reading about. They all became...

    Social security

The problem with all these schemes (all of them) is that our leaders think it is a zero sum game: transfer $$ from column A, put them in column D, the spreadsheet readjusts and the problem is fixed. But they fail to acknowledge that those numbers represent real people and people when they feel...

    Social security

That $2.9B isn't worth $1.48T today because Treasury Notes haven't kept up with inflation most years; and SS paid out $1.2T last year (2022). In 2022 SS payed out more than it took in so it started cashing in the IOUs in the 'lockbox'. That is projected to run dry in ~2035. Then SS will...

M going 2 order new Promaster

As he gets older he will find that it is much quicker and easier to completely empty his bladder at night if standing. Sitting doesn't work and kneeling is very hard on old knees.

    Lead Acid Battery Recommendation

There is an advantage to buying your batteries from someone that has a lot of locations in the areas you travel. It sucks to have to travel a long way to replace a defective battery or have to deal with shipping (at added cost) or have to buy a replacement for an in warrantee battery. Can we...

    Important documents

I have digital copies and/or photos of all important documents and cards on computer and phone. Important documents rarely needed are kept at my sisters. Important documents needed but not carried are kept in a fireproof pouch in a locked box in camper or truck. Drivers license, credit card...

M going 2 order new Promaster

At 140,000 its barely broken in. I've gotten 300K out of my last two Dodge/Ram pickups. Interesting to see how long it takes after you order it. Why Michigan? Cheaper states to buy a van (you're mobile).

    Van/truck vs RV Insurance

I only buy insurance for things I cannot afford to loose. I do not have my pickup camper insured as I can cover its loss. I also carry an umbrella policy because with today's prices one could easily do $500,000 in damage to others. Everyone will differ on what they can cover out of emergency...

Please help w/ Pros & Cons of Tall Ford Transit vs Box Van…

If you want to go unnoticed you need to have a vehicle that blends into a neighborhood and few neighborhoods will have high top vans or box trucks parked overnight on the street. If you want FWD buy factory installed; you will pay more for a 4X4 conversion and they are more difficult and...
