Hi Michelle, welcome. I dont know how active it is, but there is a yahoo group, familys on the road, that covers a lot of what you propose. If you check out the site, say hi to vanmom karen, she did pretty much what you want to do.
@ Ccg, yup, just out about a grand into the bus doing a bunch of front end work, tune up, o/c, the works. I have about the same as you in it as far as cash paid so far , but yours is nicer! Ive hsd mine for 3 years or so. The tt does need some cosmetic stuff, but is very livable as it is, and...
@cindy- i know. Im attached to it too, but the mpg, space and shower factors make the trade appealing. I have 2 1/2 years of payments left on the truck, so i cant do anything with it. It is rated for towing 5000 ( its a v 6), the tt is 2770, dry. Even if i max it out and add another 1000 or so...
Hi all. For the last couple years, i have been hunting for a somewhat newer, larger travel trailer than my 69 shasta 14' (box measures 11x7). I have found ( finally) a 88 Espre 198 (18x7 box, with a shower) in usable shape, for around $2000, give or take. People are getting $2500 for the same...
I know what you mean CCG. I pull up , open my coleman stove inside, put my 6 gal tank above the sink, pull out a folding chair, and im camping. Thats it, not even an extension cord ( thanks to solar). Even simpler than my Shasta 14' travel trailer, though the tt has a bit more room.
You can see if you can donate the wheelchair lift. The electrical cables to those things are THICK, plenty strong enough to charge a couple house batteries. That will be a nice rig. Glad you are here and enjoy it!
Hi , and welcome. Nope, your not alone. Wolf lives in a toyota corrola, and Butternut (who has a blog, btw) lived and traveled in a prius 6 months at a time. And tge vandwellers forum founder started off in an 80's ford festiva- now thats TINY.
Hi Christine, welcome. My 2000 regular length high top bus conversion gets 13.5 on the highway @62 mph. It has a gas engine, though i have heard of people getting 16-18l mpg with the same model with a diesel engine, though they are fairly rare in vans.
I would say if you have the opportunity to get it, Go for it! That puppy aint even broke in yet!! If the rest of it is in as good a shape as the pics look and engine sounds, its a gem.
theres 2000+ members here, another 8000+ on vandwellers yahoo groups ,and unknown thousands on other groups and websites. Surely SOMEONE is in your area to give you a hand, parking spot or , at the very least, reccomend a friendly shop. The great part of being part of a large community. I do...
in that reguard, "commercial" refers to the registration of a vehicle- nothing to do with windows. For example, when i bought my bus, ( in Ny) it was registered plain ole passenger. I owned a business, and insured it as part of that business, thus i registered it commercial. When i moved to Al...
