Personally, I would never head across the USA on a van that old. A Chevy Express van from Atlanta would be my choice. There's hundred's of them for sale there. Check Craigslist..... Atlanta. Catch the bus to Atlanta (no rust) .... smile.

Why do you need a double axle trailer? Do you plan on hauling 7000#? My 6x12 has a single 3500# axle, costs 1/2 the price of a double axle trailer and is way lighter to tow. I don't need anything better.

You might just need a solar panel to keep those batteries full. In fact, you'll be glad you got one, in the long run.
