    So What's Your Story?

Not fulltimers now, have a doublewide mobile home that's pretty nice and paid for, but in a cold climate. We've done a lot of living in vehicles and are currently getting set up to take off in November for 4 or 5 months in the southwest with our two dogs, hopefully including the get-together at...

    Toyota RV 4cyl

We've had two of these, both pre-1985. The second one we sold this summer, after 12 years. We took it to Mexico 3 times, and took some trips around the west. Slow, yes; reliable, very. Its nickname was Can-Do, and it lived up to it. Great gas mileage. Made a great guest cabin when we bought a...

Writing as a job or hobby for vandwellers

I've written a lot of nonfiction and I found being logical worked there. But on my 70th birthday, almost 2 yrs ago, I started a novel by just writing and seeing what came out. After 3 months, I knew I needed to outline, and in fact I also needed a genre if I wanted to sell. I outline now using a...

RV, Van Conversion, or Box Truck?

We're currently fixing up a 1982 Tioga, 24 feet long... my husband can pretty much do anything. It would meet a lot of your specs except that the cabover bed is a queen and we changed the sofa bed to have 2 desks in the main space. Paid $2800 or so for it, from friends. Have put a few hundred...

Buying a small plot of land

We have 4 undeveloped, mostly chaparral and mesquite acres outside Deming, NM, which we got at a tax auction... well we got 5 1/2 acre parcels that way and then wrote to the owner of the adjacent 3 1/2 acre parcels and bought those from her. Tax auctions are definitely a possibility... The year...

Gardening and herbs on the go.

Thanks, Guy! I could do that on the road easily.

Gardening and herbs on the go.

I've done sprouting in a variety of rigs we've had over the years, and I'm planning to do that again this winter. This trip will be in an old Tioga we recently got, and I'm thinking under the windshield when we're parked, in the shower or sink while traveling. Broccoli's my fave.

Free internet, and cell phone services through freedom pop

Like jeanontheroad, we have to have good internet. Here's a comparison chart my husband found recently: http://www.prepaid-wireless-guide.com/best-mifi-plans.html He's favoring millenicom. Anyone know about them? They ride on Verizon, which sounds good to me. We're in Colorado, will be out for...

The hardest part about this lifestyle?

I've thought about that one myself, as we get ready to spend the winter in our rig. It actually has a tiny bathtub but we are used to a hot tub! Hot springs, here we come!

Time and tide wait for no man. - Chaucer

On my 70th birthday, I started writing my first novel. On my 72nd next month, I hope to have my 3rd one up on Amazon. (Not making a lot on them, but will do more promotion soon.) As for how much money it takes to live on, geez, I've always been near the lower end of the scale!

    Article on workamping

Article my husband sent me -- http://www.alternet.org/culture/workamping-new-vagabond-lifestyle-living-rv-and-chasing-seasonal-jobs The reference to a youtube series is a bit out of date as all the videos I saw, and in fact the most recent posts, are from 2011...

    Travelling with bigger energetic dogs

Wherever we are (and mostly lately we've been at home), our dogs get a long walk every morning. When we are on the road, they get a long one in the afternoon too, since at home they have a large fenced yard. We also give pit stops galore when traveling. Keeps everyone mellower! We have a...

    Work for rent

The one thing I'd talk over a bit more with him is the idea that he wants certain things done as opposed to a certain amount of hours worked. I'd want to be sure you were both on the same page about roughly the amount of hours or work he expects, so there isn't misunderstanding later.

    Home base idea

We've got a Rottie, and I've seen people back away from her, not knowing that she wanted to lean up against them and commune... but actually when she gets to barking, it IS formidable!

24 feet, Ryannis. Funny, the length wasn't an issue for me... just the width.

I just drove our new '82 Tioga!

Gotta admit I'm not a fan of driving big things, but we just went out and cruised around for a couple of miles, me driving, our new motorhome, an '82 Tioga on a Chevvy. I was amazed at how easily it circled, backed, etc. Nice that it's automatic. We didn't go beyond easy walking distance home...
