Finally!

I really need to write a book! So, a forest fire! It's been dubbed the Mountain Fire. Started on the other side of a very high mountain, but never say never. It jumped over, and is now burning on my side. Not likely to get to far down the mountain, since there isn't a lot of fuel further down...

    12 years ago I had a 10 year plan

I hear ya'. I used to do the "plan" thing. Gave that up long ago. Rough guide? I now call them ideas. One is entitled to any number of ideas!
Yes, this forum is an amazing resource and also a wonderful place to come and remember you aren't alone.

    Filling the hours....

Slingshots...... hmmmm. This could be a bad thing, considering how annoyed I am with getting work done on my truck.

Walmart 's - Casino's - How Does "free" Overnight Parking Really Work?

I worked in Pacific Beach for 8 months, SUV camping part of that time, in 09. There were LOTS of folks in rvs, some nice'ish, most not. They were clearly living full time in them. They parked at the beach, on the residential streets, in all manner of larger parking lots. They didn't seem...

    Holidays and Being Single

I feel similarly. We humans are a social species. We seek each other out. But it seems people have changed to where acquaintanceship is more comfortable. I really don't have any friends. I have varying degrees of acquaintances. That's after living in this city for near 5 years now. I felt worse...

Walmart 's - Casino's - How Does "free" Overnight Parking Really Work?

Wally World and similar names refer to WalMart.

    Doing dishes with spray bottles

My biggest tip would be to go vegan. If you don't consume animals or animal by-products, clean up is WAY easier. The animals would also greatly appreciate it! As well as the environment.

    bath daily $5-8/month

Ha ha! Hot is not an issue for me right now! Palm Springs CA broke a record at 122 on June 30th.

    Finally!

Yes, Telcobilly, I have considered going to the San Diego area. When I worked there back a few years ago, I was amazed at how open it is to park and live in your vehicle. There were rvs of varying degree of condition, mostly bad to really really bad. And of course folks living in assorted...

    Spare tire?

I had told them that if they thought the whole thing needed to be rebuilt, to do so while they have it apart. I did point out that I didn't have deep pockets, so maybe they were trying to keep expenses down. Well, how's that workin' now? They initially thought it was plug wires, when it...

    Spare tire?

They rebuilt the top half($2200). I put maybe 300 miles on it and it "misbehaved". They did a compression test and said it's the rings. Bottom half. Arg. And they are concerned that since the transmission is having minor issues now, the added torque of a new engine will overwhelm it. My son has...

    Spare tire?

The vibration wasn't a tire issue. It's an engine issue, as in swap the engine for another one, and while you're at it do the transmission. Oh dear. Cuz I haven't spent enough yet. I can drive it, local and light. May be awhile before I have the funds. Since I live in it, I don't have a lot of...

    Finally!

I'm afraid to drive the truck too far until the engine swap, I do 5-6 miles a day. It's sucking a serious amount of gas too. I'm parking nights near the Tram road so it's usually pretty windy. I see lots of windmills here. But when it's this hot, the wind is like being in front of a hair dryer...

    Finally!

Talk about jumping in the deep end! Temps of 120, overnight lows by 5am of 90. No a/c.
I can't buy a truck camper or trailer anytime soon, or go anywhere either. I have to do an engine swap, and probably do the transmission while they have it apart. Might be able to do that by end of July...

    Finally!

Yes, I'm afraid to use the cooler. If I was driving more often, sure. But I don't. It'll be good to have maybe at some point. Or might just sell it.
I'm still running down mechanicals on the truck. Now it's running on 7 cylinders. This is after $2200ish on a top half rebuild. And the...

All The Ways We Connect While On the Road!

I don't have a smart phone or a hot spot. I have to use coffee shops, the library, Lowes, etc. I can sometimes go to someone's home and have secure access, but otherwise, what are you to do for looking at your bank account online?

Anyone have Rear Door with Fiberglass Topper?

I can climb over the tailgate, but I feel it draws attention. Also, there's no opening window on the shell between the truck cab and the shell.
I think for the back end, maybe drop the tailgate, remove the back shell window and build out a "wall" with a door. It could be made to look...

How to put additional insulation in my cooler?

I too am doing without a cooler. I insulated mine with the Reflextic, but with temps around 110, I was going through 2 blocks every 2 to 3 days. Too much money. I found I can just go to the store daily for now. Not the best, can't store any leftovers, have to buy small.... but for the time it...

    Were/are you scared to start?

DazarGaidin, that's my two worries as well. In Palm Springs CA, we get months of 105-118. The worst is yet to come, July-Sept. I have to stay fairly close to places with A/C, like coffee shops and the library. It's tolerable at night, with a cool mat under me and a wet towel on top. I'm in the...

    Best toilet options?

I live in my truck with a large extended cab. I sleep in that back seat. I've filled in the foot area with extra blankets, etc so the whole area is my bed. My first choice is to use public bathrooms as much as possible. Grocery stores, the library are the cleanest, also coffee shops. For other...
