Talk with him... At 14yrs he's old enough to understand adult concepts. Speak with him like he's an adult. Share the struggle with him... Take time to explain the why behind your decisions, and the trade offs, the economic constraints, etc. Of course, there is a chance as an adolescent he...
Hey All, my son wants to take his girlfriend and telescope out to stargaze under the guise of a family camping trip so he can propose to her... We've been looking for camping spots in or near Southern California that are exceptionally dark at night. Remote is fine as long as it's reasonably...
I stumbled across this old photo of a 1982 Airstream funeral coach and had to share it.... There's definitely a cringe-worthy aspect to the whole concept. It was simultaneously intriguing and distressing. I'm still not sure exactly how I feel about it... Kinda gives me queezy butterflies in...
I came across this article and some neat photos of a 1937 Ford house car. Amazing how much it looks like a modern van conversion inside (bed, table, sink, a little table, roof vent, etc.) ...
"worst is eating out. the family eats what they want. It drives me nuts to pay top dollar for a crappy steak and NO sides"
Yeah, I can totally identify with this sentiment. When I first started, I almost was in a panic just thinking about going to a restaurant. Here's what I do now for ****...
This all reminds me of when a certain big-name national chain restaurant would charge some people up-front for meals but not others... based on differing physical appearances. Perhaps a few van dwellers with CDL's should show up, fuel up, and then ask for showers and get refused on video...
@ JD - Sounds dee-lish! I really like the Lily's brand of Stevia sweetened chocolate. My favorite is the plain 70%, but they have other flavors too. There is a wee bit of carbs but doesn't mess with or kick you out of ****. I enjoy one or two rows at a time...
@Seminole - My favorite...
The rubber fabric itself is pretty durable unless you scrape a tree limb. The thing you need to watch is for cracking at the caulked edges and transitions to the vents, front/rear caps, skylights, etc. I check every season and use Dicor (self-leveling) to reseal over any cracking.
Very nice! First thing though is an electric tongue jack... Wish I could have gone out there with you to see the fab shop when you picked it up. I really like that triple tongue. It's bigger than I envisioned but looks like a good solid structure. Anxious to see what you do with it.
It always gets my hackles up whenever I hear talk of "policies" regarding food. I'll keep this brief, because it all starts sounding like politics or religion, and I really don't want to go there...
All my life I had the so-called best and the brightest educators school me on the 'food...
Hey DanDweller, you might want to consider a 6" or 8" marine hatch (depending on kitty girth) in an inconspicuous place in the floor. These are made from plastic so keep it away from hot exhaust. They have a large o-ring and will seal water and air when closed.
Link to Seaflo 4" - 8"...
Yeah baby! It's a total shag wagon! Gotta love that simulated wood grain siding. As Chevy said, looking at leash with dog collar attached, "...little fella probably kept up for a mile or two..."
Your proposed year ranges are right on the bubble where extra caution is needed. Please take it to a good trusted mechanic before purchase. New tires on an old rig might indicate an alignment or suspension problem, especially if it is just the fronts. Plan to invest some money restoring it...
"...mud can virtually "suck" a vehicle in and hold it with incredible vacuum-like force."
We had a surplus diesel Humvee up at the academy we used for training officers in off-road skills. Awesome, go anywhere, do anything machine... That is until you get a bunch of us academy instructors...
@StarliteRambler, Ford improved the transmissions beginning in about '97/'98 with better thrust bearings and pumps. Rebuilders upgrade the transmissions to the new spec when they rebuild them now.
