Delayed Retirement Calculation - Social Security

ArtW, I think Medicare is available once you turn 65. They are separate from SS. That will leave you 3 years to pay instead of 5. If you check to see if you can get Obamacare that can be a very affordable insurance as long as you're reportable income is low. I know there is a lot of negative...

    More weird ideas

Gotta be real careful using compressed air that you don't exceed 20 PSI or so because you'll blow out the fittings. My money is on just using the pink stuff it isn't that hard to do it either. I never liked blowing out the lines because there was no way to absolutely guarantee that all the water...

    More weird ideas

Ditto on the oiless compressor. Try using heating pad on tanks like the ones used on artic packages sold at RV stores. Use shocks that are under rated for the weight of the bed so they will assist lifting only, that way no need for the latch.

Tips for Cutting Your Own Hair?

I like the idea of letting it grow. It might be a great way to hide my bald spot so I don't have to keep insisting to those who notice it that it is in fact my personal solar panel :-)

Delayed Retirement Calculation - Social Security

I have extensive experience with the elderly and the one thing at the top of their list of regrets is that they didn't do as much as they wanted to do before their health declined. I plan on trying to make it as far as I can on savings and maybe with easy enjoyable jobs mixed in from time to...

    Towing with an automatic transmission

High Desert Stranger said everything I would so IMO he's spot on. The only thing I can add in the way of advice is to get the sway bars for the trailer hitch. If you would like to find out if you have the transmission cooler just check for what looks like a much smaller radiator in front of...

    A moral dilemma

The family is very complicated with under currents and jealousies except for my friend. So I am thinking about just leaving it up to my friend since the family dynamics are going to be my friend's problem if I were to accept the money. I know their father would like me to have the money and go...

    A moral dilemma

I've just found out that a elderly couple of a friend left a certain amount of money to me in their will and I am ambivalent about taking it. I used to do a lot for them around their home and run errands whenever I could. The gentleman grew up in the mountains of Europe and so I would take him...

    What Concerns Should I Have?

Beyond what has already been said you should be very careful buying an RV that is older than 10 years. I owned a class C for a while and even new it had issues because they really, no exaggeration, slap these things together and then wait for customers to find the faults so they can repair their...

Thoughts on Ford Transit 150 that was once owned by U-Haul?

Good point on getting rid of the van with only 3500 on it. I feel the same as High dessert stranger wondering what's wrong with this deal. The dealership has good ratings from quite a few reviewers. What about buying an ex U-Haul van? Has anyone heard good stories or horror stories? That...

Thoughts on Ford Transit 150 that was once owned by U-Haul?

It's a dealership selling it. They got it at auction. The price is in line with KBB but I'm sure I'll be able to get that down further.

Thoughts on Ford Transit 150 that was once owned by U-Haul?

There's a used car dealer selling a 2015 Transit 150 and it was once a U-Haul vehicle. It has only 3500 miles on it and looks like it was treated well having no dents excepts for one or two small dings It's the V6 3.7L engine.  Ay thoughts on buying an ex U-Haul vehicle keeping in mind it...

The official 2017 RTR event page has been posted on

I'm thinking about going to the RTR, first time if I do. So is it OK to arrive a day or two early or late?.

    Choosing truck and trailer

Strongly consider sway bars for the hitch.

    Choosing truck and trailer

IMO the best way to look at all that is to think about it in two dimensions. Weight pulling and weight carrying. As you said you know the max weight the trailer can carry and what the truck can carry. Those are all loads or downward weight pressing on the axles, tires, and suspension components...

Credit Card v. Charge Card v. Debit Card v. PayPal

Actually, the best thing to do is Google preloaded credit card costs and there was one site on the first page that list multiple types. It describes what each has for strengths and weaknesses. It was extremely helpful if you are looking into getting one. I believe it was on Nerdwallet.com

Credit Card v. Charge Card v. Debit Card v. PayPal

Green dot might be different than the others I am talking about so what I heard does apply. Not trying to"scare" just passing on facts. As always buyer beware. I do not agree that green dot is better than bank issued credit cards mostly because if the card gets compromised the bank is on the...

Credit Card v. Charge Card v. Debit Card v. PayPal

Make sure you don't preload any cards that are not behind a register and secured from tampering. Crooks are now taking the cards in displays and getting the pin number under the scratch off strip. They put them back with a new scratch off strip and lurk electronically for you to load the cards...
