    meeting others

Welcome to the forum! I recently took the plunge about 3 weeks ago. It is hard to find people to meet and talk to once on the road. More importantly I found no difficulties with the mechanics of living out of a vehicle BUT other less frequently discussed aspects really came in to play that I...

Overnight Parking At Park & Rides

I'm from RI. At some point I unfortunately have to return to Rouges Island to tie up loose ends. This will come in handy. Thanks!

    What tire works for you?

Not suggesting any particular tire but you should include a look at tirerack.com once you narrow down what you are considering. I use their site to get reviews and there's a tool that compares traction, road noise, etc so you won't end up with 120 decibel tires on your truck.

Best way to make coffee while boondocking?

I'd use a French press. As for the propane heater they make a very small grill you might find by googling it. My brother in law uses one at the beach to cook hotdogs. They restrict cooking of any type since they want to gouge people at 8 bucks for a hotdogs. But they have never caught him...

    San Juan National Forest REOPENING

Thank you! I moved today and started seeing the signs about closing. So I picked a BLM spot instead. Talking to a forestry ranger really helped because until that point I thought if forestry closed then BLM and others would close too. But I'm probably moving tomorrow because I hear a party...

Hi all I am in Utah on the top of a mountain all by myself .

I just jumped into the nomadic life 3 weeks ago. Just wrapped up a tour of the NPs in Utah about a week ago. If the timing had worked out it would have been great to stop and talk a while. I hear Bob Wells is thinking about arranging a way where new nomads can meet up with more experienced...

    Travel super light package "contest."

I started out adopting the general set up ideas like a van, wood platform bed, little desk for various uses, etc. But I figured I'd go with the pickup 4X4 I already had and within a few days and very few dollars I had a winner. 1) bought a 55 gallon container from Home Depot for 25 bucks and...

Finally on the road !! NC -> AZ/NM/CO/?

I recently went nomad in the same area too. Right now I'm getting ready to leave Bryce Canyon area. Getting out before I melt and heading to CO. Did almost all the UT NPs. Happy trails and feel free to PM me if you have any questions or to compare notes.

How big is the July meetup?

I'm in the CO/UT area for a while and would love to meet some fellow nomads. The July meetup sounds interesting because I'm new to the nomad life and might benefit from others experience. The only concern is if its a small tight group I would not want to interfer with that. Any idea on the size...

Do you know where this photo was taken? circa 1963

I'm roaming around SE Utah. So if I come across anything I'll let you know. Hoping to get all 5 NPs in before they get really packed.

Day 1 of being a nomad newbie

Spending another night at Wally World and moving south. Any ideas about a good place to put up around the Grand Tetons? This Wally World is really nice but camping is still so much better. BTW, I previously stayed at Sage Creek in the grasslands of Badlands NP. Free and really nice. Had...

Day 1 of being a nomad newbie

Thx. It doesn't seem that bad as I was planning on.  I'm keeping busy hitting a few national parks before they get crazy. Next up is Grand Tetons. I need to settle in for a few weeks to a locale so I can make some improvements on my rig.

Day 1 of being a nomad newbie

I like that "Penntucky". It could also be Pentucky as well since one of the state prisons is there. In the meantime I stumbled across a good overnight spot in La Crescent Minnesota. It's right on the Mississippi river near lock 7. They have a viewing platform to watch the lock operating...

Day 1 of being a nomad newbie

It went pretty good and I learned a few things too. For one: if possible try not to park too close to where the truckers park. It wasn't the engines running that bothered me, it was the late arrivals that didn't have a clue how to be just a bit conscientious. I was parked out of the way but this...

Day 1 of being a nomad newbie

Rode from RI to mid state PA. Oddly, I'm within walking distance of a river. So does that count as living down by the river?? I'm on the move to get over to my first place of interest, the Badlands. So Wally World will have to do. It's a weird feeling as if I'm hiding out in my vehicle. My hope...

    Solar Panel Thickness

It seems that a typical thickness is around 1 - 1 1/2 inches. Just wondering if that's what everyone is seeing.  Because I have a space to store panels when not in use that is 2 inches thick. Just the panels not with mounting brackets. Thanks.

My first day as a nomad coming real soon

Thanks Smitty. RTR is going to be a must for me. 8 months away so I'm thinking about what I want to do before RTR. Send me a PM if you make it there.

My first day as a nomad coming real soon

I've got my vehicle loaded and ready to go. A few more days to a few weeks and jumping in with both feet. Really can't wait to start the new life and adventure.  I'm in the northeast and my destination is west/ southwest in general. I'm hoping to leave asap so I can stop by a few NPs. After...
