    RTR roll call

Made it to the summer RTR and sure want to go to the winter RTR. Being on the east coast it's ~2600 miles one way so 7000 round trip with some wandering. Not sure if I'll go yet. I'll know the day before I leave! Greg and Jessie (the leashed pup) GMC hitop extended van  vtwinkicker on youtube

    Missing the snow!

I'm sitting in my cabin in the Catskill Mts., Saturday I was outside in a t-shirt. Sunday it was 23 and a foot of snow. Real pretty and the dog is having a blast running thru it. Love sitting in front of the glow from the woodstove and looking out at it. Occasionaly take the dog for a run thru...

    2017 RTR in Quartzsite

Caryn, I would be leaving from NY that first week of January.

    2017 RTR in Quartzsite

I'm sure it would be very difficult. Thats why I said loose caravan. My thinking was if people were leaving around the same time we could meet then head out at our own pace. Chances are we would run into each other several times during the journey. By meeting first we would recognize one another...

    2017 RTR in Quartzsite

Hey All, I made the summer RTR and hope to make the long drive for the winter one. How many of us from the east coast are heading out and when are you getting on the road? I'm thinking right after New Year is when I'll hit the road. Maybe a loose knit caravan can be formed? Greg0p

Wood or Metal [split from Too many good ideas]

I built my bed out of 1x2 for the frame and half inch plywood for the top. Year and a half old and no problems. Strong as can be for 2 people. It's 3ft x 6 ft with the capability of making it 4ft x 6 ft when  a 2nd person comes along.

Inexpensive high top source on east coast

I'm on the east coast and had mine installed by TCI Mobility in PA. Don't remember what town but it was just south of the Delaware Water Gap area and within an hour of Cabelas in Hamburg,PA as I remember. They also have a site in Florida. Price was not as cheap as the link above but it's a 24"...

Summer RTR 2016 Highly Probable--Suggestions for Where and When?

Bob, the time and place is looking real good for me to make it. I will be in  Santa Fe/Southern CO late May early June so I will plan to attend this RTR.

    Ham radio - I'm W8BBS

Search the internet for ham practice test or ham question pool and several sites will pop up with the information. If you decide to go for the license try studying for the general as well. You can take both tests at one test session for the price of one ($15 I think). Might as well go straight...

    Vtwinkicker van build

Thanks! The other idea I had was to build another box slightly larger than the stationary one that is against the driver side wall. The larger box would fit over the stationary one like  nesting boxes and slide out to expand the bed.

Masterplumber, thanks for the velcro fix. I have a roll of it so I think I'll put it to use.

    Vtwinkicker van build

Here's a few more pics. I added a bungie to the water jug holder to keep it in place. The jug is a snug fit, especially when full of water. I originally was going to remove it while driving then realized that would be a pain detaching the hose everytime. I built a plywood box to elevate the...

You got it! 30 years kickstarting Harleys. I was wondering if the sliders would either rattle or slide while driving. haven't road tested them yet. If they do there will be a fix for that too! Maybe just stuff the area so full they can do neither!   :)

Whynter 62 QT Ac/DC Fridge Freezer

Yes I believe Dometic/Waeco have joined forces or one bought the other. I still have my Norcold from my 1980 van, I'd be using it if it wouldn't wake the dead its so loud. The power cord is very similar, probably 16 gauge. Outlet is aftermarket wired to my fuse block. I intend to hard wire...

Whynter 62 QT Ac/DC Fridge Freezer

I wish I had found this thread before I returned the Whynter dual zone. Now that I am convinced it was the ciggy plug that was the weak link I could have easily solved the problem by cutting the cord and hard wiring. I really liked the two separate compartments with their own doors as well as...

    Vtwinkicker van build

Today's work turned out well without too many hiccups. I closed in the overcab storage and the rear overhead storage with sliding doors. I was going to build a drop down or fold up door but decided to go with sliders instead. I didn't want to deal with hinges today. The build went well but time...

LA, glad one of my solutions is also useful for you. FYI, I pre-drilled with a countersink bit and used 2 inch deck screws. It appears very solid and should hold up to the abuse it will take.
