    Advice wanted:MPPT charge controller

I'd also like to add that I am not knocking any system that you use, like, or are thinking of using regardless of brand, PWM or MPPT. I haven't used them or tested them so I can't speak to their performance or comparison. My previous post was purely to share information gained from my...

North East coast vandwellers- RTR anyone (NY?)?

Looks like we have some interest here for a gathering. Currently it looks like a half dozen rigs or so. I have a location in mind that will accommodate that and if it grows I'll scout for a larger area. Sticking with the mid May time frame which will typically yield warm enough weather during...

    Advice wanted:MPPT charge controller

I've been using the Bogart SC2030 and TM2030 combo with temperature compensation for almost 2 years on my current rig with 300w flat mounted solar. I run a Dometic 65qt dual fridge/freezer 24/7. The freezer is set at 13 degrees and the fridge is in the mid 30s. I don't turn it off at night or...

North East coast vandwellers- RTR anyone (NY?)?

The term rubber tramp has been around a long time. Whether or not Bob is offended by the use of "Rubber Tramp Rendezvous" or "RTR" by others is his call. Hopefully he will weigh in and let us know if those terms are reserved. I guess the terms have become well known enough to be universal like...

North East coast vandwellers- RTR anyone (NY?)?

I doubt we'd see swarms of vandwellers, especially the first time. I think if we saw a dozen rigs we'd be doing petty good. Everybody is out west!  If I see any interest I will scout out some state forest land in central NY that would be able to accomodate. I'm thinking mid May before the bugs...

North East coast vandwellers- RTR anyone (NY?)?

Someone said most vandwellers are either out west or back east, not many in the middle. I'm in NY and am thinking of scouting out some state forest lands I know of that might be good for an east coast RTR. Who all is on the east coast? and would anyone be interested in something this spring?

Dometic CFX-95DZUS. Too Large For Van Life?

I have the 65qt Dometic dual zone. It's easy to pack it full and wish I had a little more space in both fridge and freezer side at times. I also wish it didn't take up so much room in the van. The top opening is great for keeping the cold inside when you open it but the downside is you lose the...

Battery Charge/Discharge Monitor w/ Remote Display

I installed the Trimetric SC-2030 charge controller and Trimetric TM-2030 battery meter. I have full confidence in my solar charging setup. I know what is going on with the batteries at any given time. The combo of both controller and meter work together to give, in my opinion, excellent...

    Correct flexible tubing for water?

What you are tasting in the water is the residual plasticizer in the hose. Its added during manufacture for flexibility. Usually if you put the hose in water and boil it you will remove the excess. Maybe try a small piece first, some hose is not formulated for the heat.

    A Soul Searching Morning

When I was at the Grand Canyon I was sitting and watching the scenes change.During that time an older gentleman walked by and started talking to me. He was from Maine and on a solo road trip. He was on the road about 2 weeks and said he was thinking of going home. I asked why. He said he was...

    What happened to Coleman stoves?

You're Welcome Wabbit! Glad it worked for you Also those with limited space I found this Coleman stove pretty handy. It's called the Fold n Go. Two burner stove hinged in the middle like a waffle iron. If you only need one burner you can stand the other burner straight up and the stove takes...

    Casey Front Hitch

I too have a newer GM van and want a front hitch as I always had them on my previous vehicles. I searched high and low and it seems they stopped making them with the new body design (2004?). I plan on having one fabricated in the near future and when it happens will let you know the results.

    What happened to Coleman stoves?

Tom, yes there is a quick fix for the possessed valve knob. Here's my video on the simple fix. In a few words the fix is to remove the knob and put something behind it to act as a friction plate. I used leather as that what I had that was handy and works great. I'm sure rubber washers...

    Your Opinion on Roadtreks?

One thing to keep in mind with the Roadtreks. If I remember correctly there isnt a lot of roof real estate for solar panels. Maybe 200 watts of space on the larger ones? I had a '99 Roadtrek 190 Popular (Dodge) and found it had plenty of storage for myself. I did use the shower often and...

    another bed idea

How about if all 4 legs were adjustable and the bed attached to the wall at the center so it can pivot head toe and the side can go up down. Something like how a joystick goes every direction from one point.

Mounting large solar panels with 3M VHB tape

I was tempted to use the VHB tape to eliminate the need for putting holes in the roof. The solar installer in Oregon (name escapes me) uses it as the only means of attachment to the roof (at the time I spoke with them). I called 3M directly and asked them about it. Their reply was VHB and...

    Solar roof coverings- passive heat?

My thoughts on this......black absorbs heat and white reflects so it will probably have some positive effect. I doubt the insulation is so adequate that it will not allow some heat transfer. If anything a black roof might slow the loss of heat from the Airstream to some degree. I don't...

    scooters and off road motorcycles

I had a Kawasaki KLR 250 for years and recently picked up a Yamaha XT250. Carried both on a receiver hitch, in front on my pickup when I had the truck camper and now on the rear with my van. Both are reliable bikes, a lot of fun on the forest roads, and street legal for trips to town. They are...
