Need help, whether talking me into it or out of it.

I spent my last few years at work researching this lifestyle on the computer. Found the CRVL website long before his youtube channel. Read a book or two and all those quotes Bob reiterated. I took the plunge and retired early. BOY AM I SORRY!!! Sorry I didn't do it earlier!!

Patriot gas free generator & solar

I know someone who has a similar unit, can't remember the brand. It was raved about until it crapped out then when the company was contacted for repairs the shipping was so expensive it wasn't worth fixing. IMO it's a fancy looking battery/charge controller/inverter in a box that's way...

How much solar do I need?

Rolling BnB Wrote: I wish someone would just say 'I have this much solar/# of batteries/size of inverter and this is what I run on it.' I have watched so many videos and read so many articles and they just make it more confusing. I have 300w mounted flat on the roof. They charge two 6v...

    Northeast High Top Conversions

I don't think I took any pics of it, at least I couldn't find any. If you have the bandwidth to watch youtube I know I showed it in the build videos. I do know it is 4 foot wide side to side.

$3200. I got a 24" hitop with a steel rollcage. Standup height is about 6'1" I think. This is on an extended GMC van.

Blackmajik, I got my hitop installed at TCI in PA. They did a great job. I mentioned them to another member here and she had one installed by them also and was also pleased with the work. Maybe she'll see your post and chime in. She ordered her top from Fiberine and had it shipped to TCI for...

    Battery Box location?

Here's where I put the batteries (2 6v golf cart) in my GM van. Don't know if the Ford will have the same space.

Which Chevy Engine 4.8 or 6.0

I have the 6.0 in my GMC Savana. I've talked to people with both motors and the gas mileage is close between the two. I opted to go with the 6.0 so I have the spare power to tow should I want to and not work the engine as hard. I average in the 14 to 16 mpg range depending on the mix of...

A month away from taking off in my van \o/

    Big Solar! Tiny Generator!

With all that solar you would think they could plug in an electric battery charger instead of using a generator!

    Questions about campers and pickups

In the truck camper world it is often said "find the camper first then find the truck that will carry it". Truck manufacturers change the dimensions of the truck bed from time to time. An older camper may not fit a newer truck as truck beds have gotten narrower over the years. Also the height of...

    Hightop install

My installer built a 1x2 steel roll cage. It is bolted to the van where the roof was cut out. Some just epoxy the top to the remaining roof edge and screw it down. I'm sure other installers do other things as well

    GMC/ Chevy 6.0 L 3500? Too Much?

I have the GMC Savana 2500 with the 6.0L engine. I can get 16 highway and overall avg about 14-15. It also is 4wd and has a hightop. I'm quite happy with it.

    High Top

Glad it all worked out and you are very happy. TCI did a great job on my top so I felt comfortable recommending them to you. Things can always go wrong when giving recommendations and I'm so glad it went well for you. TCI is batting .1000 for us vandwellers!

    Standing up in a van

I could probably do without a hitop but for me it's a quality of life issue. Being able to stand in the van makes it more comfortable when spending long periods inside like at night. Being able to stand upright is a pleasure and just adds enjoyment to the van life.
