Should I keep stock amenities from 1989 camper van or replace with updated system?

So you're saying of the photos listed (6 Total) that the Heater, water pump, and battery should be upgraded? I would like the water to be hot, so I can hook up a outdoor shower eventually.

Should I keep stock amenities from 1989 camper van or replace with updated system?

Hey friends, I knew I needed to rip out the carpet in order to put down vinyl for the floors. I've got 2 dogs, so no compromise on this. Plus it smelled like cheap carpet cleaner. Gross. I also wanted to update the the floor plan to better fit my needs so the carpet was coming up anyways. It...

Planning an across country trip. What should I ask my mechanic?

Hi all, Heading to The Bay from Boston. I'm trying to find a mechanic with a lift that will support my 1989 Dodge Ram Xplorer Camper van. I want them to go over it thoroughly. Once I do find a mechanic (Locally I keep being told that their lifts can't handle the weight of my van), I'll want to...

What would be on your VAN/RV Christmas list?

Sounds dreamy. I'd start with getting those acres and go from there!  ;)

Anyone install a safe in their van?

Jesus. Enough with the lectures. Yes, I'm clear some are scared of the internet. I'm not interested in if they currently have safes or where they are. And obviously they don't have to share any helpful information or even comment on this thread unless it's useful.  I'm asking if anyone has...

Anyone install a safe in their van?

Yep. I google everything. But there is a lot of wisdom here in these forums too. It's good to know what this community has to say.

Anyone install a safe in their van?

Good to know. Most crimes are committed simply because it's convenient. Just trying to make things just hard enough to make 'em not want to bother.

Anyone install a safe in their van?

Of course. I was interested in how it's done. How people managed to do it. I don't need to know where yours is now. I understand people might have done it in the past, maybe in an old van and would be willing to share the process. I didn't realize people were so touchy about sharing process.

Anyone install a safe in their van?

I see. Yes, I missed it. Not trying to stir anything up. I was just thinking it would be nice to place a few thingsthat mean a lot to me and a place to put my computer during the day. I've been burglarized before at my house and I was just thinking I might want a little secure spot for things...

I'm a little confused. Why are you sorry? What post vanished?

Anyone install a safe in their van?

I'm thinking a hidden compartment. Love to see examples of how this has been done. Or hear thoughts on how you keep your valuable safe.

What would be on your VAN/RV Christmas list?

List things you wish you had to help make van life comfortable and happy. From hacks you've seen, product, anything! For instance, I wish I had an indoor shower that folded up into the roof when not in use.  GO!

How bad is this rust? Driving from Boston to Oakland in January.

Likely, yes to snow and icy roads. This is a New England van. Unless they were snow birds but it has really low miles, so I doubt it.

How bad is this rust? Driving from Boston to Oakland in January.

I'll get those photos and post them up! I'd love to hear more knowledge.  I'm not mechanically inclined (yet!) so even if I bring it to a mechanic, I'd like to learn/know what I'm looking at.  We have to stop all this burrito talk or I'm going to head out before my planned departure date!  I'd...

ALWAYS open to hearing recommendations for future meal stops! I'll add it to my list. Thank you!

Thanks TravelDerby! Ha, yes, Michigan knows all about rust! I asked about the same issue on Reddit and I had a guy say: "From Canada: What rust?" Hahaha. I guess it's all about perspective.  I'll try and get some more pictures to make things more clear. Thanks for your thoughts.

How bad is this rust? Driving from Boston to Oakland in January.

Yes, obviously the ideal would be mechanic before, but it didn't happen that way. That's why I'm reaching out to friends on here with what I do have. I didn't just "fly to Oakland and buy a rust free California van" for $400 because - that's just not what happened. There are a million reasons...

How bad is this rust? Driving from Boston to Oakland in January.

A few reasons. I have a sister there, so it makes it easy to land knowing someone in the area. There are actually a couple van-dwellers on her street already. It's cheaper than SF and I can park right outside on her street without being harassed too much. From what I heard, there is not a lot of...
