anyone homesteading?

Well, I live in the desert, and it's some family land...so hardly any chance of rain water collection, and the nearest water source is a two hour drive...I suppose I could get 5 gallon jugs and take really old school baths?

My dilema is that I'll only be living off grid for 10-12...

    anyone homesteading?

Seems like there are some pretty neat tips and tricks for someone living in an RV on the go, but I'm a stay in one place kind of guy. I have a spot of land picked out, but no hookups available....and I have no idea where to start!

So...how to get power? Run a genny? What kind of...

If I...

    FEMA trailers?

My aunt and uncle will let me park whatever I end up choosing to live in on their land, so I need something that's self-contained I suppose...

Has anybody had any experience with these? They seem to be going for really cheap and I'm sure that making it self contained couldn't be too...

    so many questions!

I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to run a fridge off of solar through out the day and then a genny for a/c for when I'm inside, then? I'll save enough for a genny to start with and then work my way up to solar....

    so many questions!

I'm not much for the truck camper...if I'm going to live in a small space then I would much rather stay in something stealthy- seeing as how the point is to be able to park for free....and I've checked out gennys and all that for power and it seems pretty effective for running a/c...
<br...

    so many questions!

Okay, so just a little background- right now I live in West Texas and the oil field is BOOMING so rent is extremely high. I've always wanted to live in a van/ RV so this is the perfect time to do it. I can sub-lease my apartment after I've come up with enough money for a down payment.
<br...
