Presidential Election Results and Uncertainty for the Nomad

Without going into who you support or who you did or didn't vote for, Its definitely an uncertain time with markets fluctuating, and the nation divided. What does this mean for the Nomad lifestyle? Are we more at risk for persecution or ostracization. I definitely feel that. One thing that...

    Buying Van with High Mileage

I've done it, had a $2000 van for a year. By staying organized I was able to move things to a new van easily. Being portable is the key. You could even have a new van that gets rear ended or T boned, and you will be in the same position.

    Buying Van with High Mileage

Fascinating the variety of opinions and how assertive people are on their views of this. There is the No car lasts pasts 200k miles or is worth it after 200k and brakes down all the time crowd. Then there is the I drove a 300k van cross country 3 times type of crowd. I have bought an older...

    Is this mileage too high?

If it is indeed a newer moter then it could be a good van. If he has paperwork regarding the new motor. $4400 is a high price for that amount of mileage. $3000 to $3300 would be a good deal for this van if it drives good and is mechanically sound. It can be a good van. That mileage is not high...

California $15 an hour minimum wage passed

I had a feeling it would turn political the moment I pressed post. But I got some ideas and suggestions. A general consensus is California is a difficult place to live as a van dweller.

California $15 an hour minimum wage passed

Moderators should close this thread. Its going off topic from mobile living and if the minimum wage increase can help.

California $15 an hour minimum wage passed

Aghh what the heck did I just start. I guess I'll lean on the side that it won't benefit a van dweller in California if the minimum wage goes up since costs could soar. If its just real estate that goes up and you can still shop for food and eat at lower cost that would be ok.

California $15 an hour minimum wage passed

Keeping the thread on mobile lifestyle, I'm trying to figure out how a van dweller can use this to their advantage to save money since they can possibly avoid paying rent.

California $15 an hour minimum wage passed

It looks like a deal was reached to hike the minimum wage in California  to $15 per hour .  https://www.yahoo.com/news/video/deal-reached-hike-california-minimum-034800613.html Can this be an advantage for van dwellers who take retail or other minimum wage jobs in the state? Live in the van...

Seasonal Spring Summer work on the Northern Plains

Areas like Fargo, and Grand Forks aren't oil driven. There are a lot of agriculture and construction type of temp jobs there from what I see.  Since there is a short window for these in that area. Just an idea for those who area wondering up north.

Seasonal Spring Summer work on the Northern Plains

I've been seeing ads on Craigslist and other job sites for seasonal spring work ranging from construction, marine, landscaping etc.. As the spring thaw takes place it seems places like Minnesota and North Dakota seem to start hiring a lot for work from spring through the summer.  On average...

    2nd year anniversary full timing

You had a thread some time back about Uber Driving. So your still doing this on weekends?  Are you still making around the same amount as when you started?  An office job seems like a big change from jumping into driving.

    1994 Dodge Ram Van 235,000 $1500

Transmission swaps or way cheaper than rebuilds. Swaps can be had for $1000 - $1500 including labor.  So that is a better option down the line.  If it made it to 235,000 miles there is a chance it may not even be the original transmission or even engine.

    1994 Dodge Ram Van 235,000 $1500

Look under the frame for rust or rust holes. This is an absolute must.  And also at that low price it likely is an as is sale. So taking to a mechanic may not be an option unless you bring one with you to look at the van. The high mileage is worth taking a chance on the 318 and 360 engine can...

    Rockwood Hard Sides?

I know its not exactly the pinnacle of stealth, but if you have a tarp over a Tee Pee Shaped AFrame you are less likely to have people leer over and stare at the UFO shaped thing Maybe thinking your towing a odd shaped object.  I was in the van at walmart the other night and the security car...

    Rockwood Hard Sides?

Have been looking at ALINERS, ROCKWOODS and CHALET aframe trailers lately.  Walmart parking should be doable I'm thinking since it doesn't look like a pop up with the dormers or tents popping out. For other parking lots an idea is to throw a tarp over the AFrame camper to get a semi stealth...

Been Living in my Van Almost a Week... my thoughts.

If you are a homebody then the general answer is that van dwelling is not for you. Since I ventured into the lifestyle, I've been forced to live and thrive outside of a home. Doing errands and other things in public places, using Starbucks internet, and bathing after a workout in the gym. ...

Storage Unit Horror Story Your Items aren't safe!

All good suggestions. I finally got my stuff out of there and took photo and video of the place. I put up a bad review on Yelp and wrote reviews on selfstorage.com ans sparefoot.com But these sites require you to wait till they approve the review. I have a feeling selfstorage.com (where I...

Storage Unit Horror Story Your Items aren't safe!

The unit is located in North Carolina. I don't have a problem posting the name of the place on here. After sending the police officer an email and copying the lady. She agreed to remove their lock for one day to let me get my stuff out. But then she said if I was there after she would have me...
