    Newcomer's question

If you are on Facebook go to Prius Camping and request to join. Once in go to the FILES section and read up on electric stuff. Then go to the search button and search more specific things. There is a ton of info.  BTW, at 100,000 miles your Prius is barely broken in.

    Butane availability

Also keep Asian grocery stores in mind. I got a stash at a Korean store in CA. Possibly not a thing in SW AZ, but for future reference.

    Newbie and gas

Me again. Packing up to head south next week. Pulled out the stove, attempted to light. Nada. Pulled out the can. It is heavy and sloshes. Tried again spark but no light. Smelled gas. Took it outside to try lighting with flame. Nothing. The lighter thingy always sparks. Prius camping. I don't...

    Newbie and gas

Reporting back .... a little late.  I'm still fumbling with the little Coleman butane stove. And still flummoxed. After I had been home awhile from that first trip and the stove had been sitting in the basement, I tried it and it lit right up. Same can that would not light in Texas in Feb. Last...

Don't know what I don't know about the desert

I forgot to check back here after returning north earlier in the year. My dog was totally underwhelmed by Quartzsite. Anything he sniffed had stickers involved and that desert pavement was a poke in his paws every step of the ways. Really, that is some sharp stone, ready to twist an ankle at any...

OKRA -- yuck or yum? Try this.

Thanks for posting. I shall try it. I've never really seen okra except in gumbos. I'm all for veg that doesn't need a lot of fuss. Brussels sprouts are my fav (cooked the same way except with a short steam at the end) but even they need to be messed with and cut in half.

    Newbie and gas

The whole thing makes me pretty nervous. The three new bottles lit once with a biggish flame. And then immediately went out. Did not try with match. All felt heavier and I could feel movement with a gentle rocking but I didn't know if shaking was a good idea. This stove is suppose to be idiot...

    Newbie and gas

Back from my inaugural travels with my Prius. I like the size and stability of the square butane stove and the first bottle worked OK. I never got it lit again after that one. I tried three of the other bottles I had. All lit with gusto, went out immediately and never lit again. The spark was...

    Newbie and gas

Uh oh ... by "disconnect" do you mean just "unlock" the vertical lever and leave the can in place?  I took it out. Will it go back in again???

    Newbie and gas

I have acquired and tested my first stove ... Coleman butane. Bought one can of butane for the test .. $1.99 at asian market. I hear rumors of .99 across the Bay. Installed easily and started immediately. Now what? Should I removed the canister if I won't be using it for 3 weeks? What keeps the...

Gas One Butane Cans for $0.99

Found cans at asian market for $1.99. Bought one to test my new stove. Are they downsizing all the cans? I've seen 8.8 and 8 online but these are 220g 7.76 oz. Will be testing the stove and can outside tomorrow.

Gas One Butane Cans for $0.99

Interesting news as I've just had Amazon decline to ship me butane to California. Googling tells me there have been many complaints about this from both sellers and buyers but no one seems to know why. There is no state law against it. I'm in Marin, with no 99 Only stores but I will check out...

What are you using for bedding?

I'm in a Prius with a Thermarest Mondo King 3d. 25 x 77 inches. The pad has big R value but the material itself is cold on cold nights. This wouldn't be an issue if using a sleeping bag but I'm not. So, I have a heavy soft yoga blanket on top and then a sheet.  This blanket...

Don't know what I don't know about the desert

Two northerners headed south in January. Quite frankly, as a child of the North, just the notion of the desert makes me a bit nervous. Things that run through my mind in the night ... are there fleas, ticks, fire ants, scorpions? Cholla nd all things prickly? Snakes? What should be in my...
