Slowly coming along - have questions

The pipe is decently heavy as I went for thick-walled to make sure it'd be strong and not saggy. The beauty of it all is that it breaks down so the smaller sections of pipe are easy to move, but once it's assembled it's probably heavy enough to be awkward for one person to move. I'm...

Slowly coming along - have questions

The best thing to cut memory foam with is one of those electric carving knives, they go through foam like butter! I had to shorten my 8" thick mattress by about 6" and used this method. Check out my bed frame, it doesn't require many tools to build/comes apart/uses space MUCH better...

    The ultimate bug out vehicle

Sportsmobiles are rad. They have a nice forum over at http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/index.php

    Motorized bike, anyone have one?

I scored a hell of a deal on a 2001 Honda Elite 80 on Craigslist and knew it'd be the perfect transportation compliment to my van. She needed a bit of work when I got her, but after a few adjustments by a really good scooter mechanic she has been running really strong and hasn't given me...

Bad back & sleeping in a van - what do you sleep on?

Memory foam is my secret! Everyone who has layed on my bed (nearly queen size bed in a regular length Ford E150 high-top) has said it's unreasonably comfortable. It's an 8" thick memory foam mattress from a local retailer where I'm from.

Question about height of Astro cargo vs passenger, and beds

All I have to say on the subject is... I'm 6 feet tall and I got a Ford E150 conversion van with a high-top roof, and I don't regret it one bit.

94 Ford E150 conversion van road trip/get-away vehicle

Checking in from warm and sunny Southern California! My wonderful van made the 3,000+ mile trek from Connecticut to Los Angeles effortlessly and in style. It was sooo nice to travel with a queen size memory foam bed in the back and not have to worry about paying for a place to...

    Motorized bike, anyone have one?

After owning a 50cc Tomos moped for about a year, I decided to upgrade to an 80cc Honda Elite scooter. I got tired of having to hang out on the shoulder and feeling like every passing car was about to run me over. I scored the Elite, not running, for $250 off Craigslist. Spent...

Comfort and Convenience and the lifestyle, my way.

Awesome post, loved the Carlin video. You seem like you've got a lot figured out. Where abouts on the coast are you?

    (Bed Related) Conversion Question

Here's a suggestion that might be easier than bolt cutters: use a Dremel or a similar style cutting tool to basically cut the nut in half. Once the nut is off, bolt removal is easy!

94 Ford E150 conversion van road trip/get-away vehicle

Hey CrossCountryGal - no problem!

Like I originally mentioned, I'd seen the pipe bed executed in homes before but never in a van. This how-to site gave me the most inspiration and best visuals for what I wanted to accomplish: <a...

    (Bed Related) Conversion Question

The bolts and nuts holding the rear seat in on my '94 E150 conversion were pretty damn rusted. Even with lots of penetrating oil I couldn't get them free with a wrench. Luckily my exgirlfriend's dad was willing to help me, we ended up using his pneumatic impact wrench...

94 Ford E150 conversion van road trip/get-away vehicle

Hey all, I've been working on my van off/on for the last couple months and now that I'm approaching my take-off date I figured I'd share a few photos. My goal for my rig isn't necessarily for me to be able to full-time in it, but rather for it to be a comfortable road-trip vehicle for...

What is "the deal" I should be looking for for $3000 to $5000?

For $3000, my dad found me a pretty nice van near him in Florida. 1994 Ford E150 high-top conversion by MarkIII, ~105k miles at the time, in used but not abused shape. No rust and the engine runs strong, so those were the two biggest points for me. You're probably gonna have to...

Any questions about the structural integrity of high tops?

Pretty sure I can feel my van flexing as I go over uneven/rolly sections of pavement. When the road is nice and true (like a freshly paved highway) it tracks really straight, but on sections of road that are banked I can feel it pull to different sides. It was really weird at first...

    Cold Brian's Conversion.

Hey man, nice work so far! I'm a Brian, too! I see you're in New England - what part? I'm in CT, feeling quite cold also... Getting my van ready over the next few weeks and then driving out to California. Can't wait to be Warm Brian!

Good luck with the rest of your...

    swivel seat
I don't know man... So say you get into an accident, the seat belt stays secure but all of the sudden the swivel breaks and seat that the belt holding you in is no longer attached to anything... No matter how strong and secure the belt is, it won't do much good holding you (or your...

Bed layout for someone 6ft tall

My layout is 4 captains chairs and a 6ft bed lengthwise behind that. It ends up being the perfect length to fit in a non-extended Ford. My mattress is a queen size that I'm going to cut down to 72" long (6ft exactly) while keeping the 60" width for super comfy angled lounging.
