    Theresa is here!

    Welcome, Theresa! There are at least a couple of us up here in Washington State, so you have neighbors at least. Me, I'm a little north of Seattle. Just a couple hours away from you. :-)&nbsp;<div><br></div>

    The sure-to-be-exciting adventures of Lucy

    Because everyone else has a blog, so why not me?&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>...in other words, I started a blog. Love it if you stopped by, though it's pretty bare at the moment. :-)&nbsp;</div>

    Idiot-proof energy

    Aren't those portable solar charges like 15 watts or something? How long would that take to charge a battery?&nbsp;

    My 1996 Dodge Ram Van

    Ugh, I'm getting tired of the prep stage, I want to get this going.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>My biggest holdup right now is that I have a car to sell before I can go. I lost the title, so had to jump through hoops to get a replacement sent, and it takes like ten weeks. I'm on week nine now...

    Greetings from Southern California

    <div><br></div><div>That's a dangerous offer. SoCal is my destination, at least at first. :-)</div>

    Greetings from Southern California

    I just turned 33, and have maybe two more weeks before I set out. I guess this really is the age to make a choice like this. :-) I always assumed there would be mostly older people doing this kind of thing. I'm glad to be wrong.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>Welcome to it, Tony! I'm with you on...

    Books on Car/Van Dwelling

    I picked up a book at the used book store called The Girl's Guide to Homelessness, which is supposedly the story of a girl who found herself living in a travel trailer in a Walmart parking lot. But it turns out there was maybe a chapter's worth of practical details about living in the trailer...

    Coffee on the Road

    I was thinking I would stock up on those Starbucks Via packets, for simplicity's sake. I know single-serve anything isn't as cheap or environmentally friendly as you could want, but for ease and convenience...just mix it into hot water and go. No press, no filter, no mess.&nbsp;

    The importance of naming your ride.

    I decided on Falkor for mine, after the big white flying luckdragon from The Neverending Story.&nbsp;I figure I'll need all the luck I can get. :-)&nbsp;

    I feel almost bipolar these days.

    I'm thinking it's probably a normal thing. The closer I get to setting out the less neutral I can be about it. It's either 'this is going to be AWESOME, I can't wait!' or it's 'jesus, what am I doing, this is insane'. Either I want to just get out on the road already or I'm thinking of reasons...

    My 1996 Dodge Ram Van

    Thanks for the advice, Rollin. The velcro and curtains are almost done in my van, so too late to rethink it now. I'll be sure to have a plan B in mind for summertime, if things start melting. I plan to spend time in CA and AZ, so I'm sure it'll get toasty sometimes. The reflectrix might help...

    My 1996 Dodge Ram Van

    <div><br></div><div>Hey, I did say I was a lurker here for a while. I read people here give the same tips over and over again, they sunk in. :-) I am quite sure I'm going to make some big mistakes now and then, though.&nbsp;</div>

    My 1996 Dodge Ram Van

    Thanks for the feedback, all. I decided to listen to Seraphim and worry about window coverings next. I'm going with a three-pronged system. Velcro strips around all the windows that can hold blackout curtains when I need privacy, and mosquito netting when I can have windows open. I also got some...

    My 1996 Dodge Ram Van

    So I've debated for a little while about whether or not to document my process here. You guys are pros, building and wiring and rigging up fancy things, and I'm not going to do any of that. I'm probably not going to do anything more impressive than stack a bunch of rubbermaids...

    I can't decide about bringing my cat.

    Thanks for the advice, everybody! I definitely feel better about at least making the attempt to bring him along. Litterbox by the passenger's seat is a great idea. I admit that space was also a concern for me.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>I think I'll go buy him a harness and see how disgruntled he...

    Thinking Baja 2014...

    Oh my God, this looks amazing. Who knows where I'll be in 2014 but I might try to get to Mexico sooner than I thought. I always figured that would have to be a completely different research path, trying to go down there, but sounds like you guys cross the border a lot.&nbsp;

    I can't decide about bringing my cat.

    Everything for my van-life is coming together slowly - the van is shaping up, I'm clearing the house out bit by bit. The biggest issue I'm working out right now is Tony.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>Tony is 11 years old. He's a big guy, fluffy as all hell. He's also very active, especially for his...

    Idiot-proof energy

    I'll be honest - the moment I read something about inverters or wire stripping or battery grounding, I go a little crosseyed.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>I'm not going to have a huge amount of things that need electricity, and what I have is fairly small. The biggest drain would be my...

    Hi top van or cargo trailer?

    When I was researching what to get, I was looking at trailers for a while. But a few sites I was checking made good points about how access to the driver's seat is a good thing, in case you end up in a bad situation. I guess it depends on how secure you think you'll be, but as a woman on her own...
