    Trouble with foam board

That's what I'm doing now. It wasn't a money issue, just a questions of what I'd seen people doing online. Most people seemed to be using 1" foam board without trouble but I just couldn't make it work. I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through insulating with 1/2" board and it still is...

    AGM or LiFePo4?

I have been planning my electrical system (as some of you may have seen in other posts.) I was set on a small AGM setup with some solar and a connection to both starter batter and shore power with a generator to do the AC and wheelchair charging related heavy lifting.  My family has been...

    Electrical system design questions

I think at this point, I'm going to go ahead with my old generator plan: https://vanlivingforum.com/showthread.php?tid=32284 A number of you chimed in on that. Since then, I have done more research and found similar things being done in travel trailers as well as in other, non-mobile...

    Electrical system design questions

A friend is coming over to help me insulate this afternoon. :) Unfortunately, LFP is clearly far out of my price range. At this point, I'll probably have a 200ah AGM battery bank for running things like the vent fan, the CPAP, and eventually a refrigerator when I can afford one. When I have to...

    Electrical system design questions

I do wish it were that simple. I need the wheelchair and the AC because I have heart problems. If it were *just* the AC, I might choose option A, but I've got to come up with about 100ah @ 24v if not more every day for my wheelchair... I suspect it will have to be mostly A. B isn't an option...

    Electrical system design questions

I'm really hoping to take some trips lasting as much as a month, but pretty much yeah, though this is also my daily use vehicle. I didn't think this would be a viable solution for full time.

    Electrical system design questions

I appreciate the advice and don't mind the repetition on an important point. I'm not really a "car guy" but I was honestly hoping that, since I won't be full time, that a week or two here and there running like that wouldn't be so terrible. It sounds like my guesses might not have been correct. ...

    Electrical system design questions

Thank you most kindly. This was extremely informative. I knew some of what you said, though not all the detail you included. I was hoping to work around the limitations by ultimately spreading the whole thing out among a bunch of individual cells so that the large draw would be pulling from each...

    Electrical system design questions

I'm not looking for the best. I'm looking for adequate to get me through. I'm looking to know if running the van's engine for part or most of the night, leaning on the batteries some of the time will get me through the night.

    Electrical system design questions

So it sounds like you are saying that my design is not a good one. I don't doubt that. I know it is not optimal or even necessarily workable. The question is this: how bad is it? If I went ahead with it, what do you predict would be the result? Is it The-Van-Will-Explode-And-You-Will-Die bad? or...

    Electrical system design questions

Could you explain what a regulator is in this context? Is it something I need to add?

    Electrical system design questions

I'm not going to be full timing and where I will need to be will often be without regard to weather. :) The van is a 2015 Ram Promaster 2500 136wb My original, original plan when I started thinking about this a while ago was to just try to do without AC using fans and good ventilation. On a...

    Electrical system design questions

I did look at Nissan leaf and Tesla batteries but they were both too expensive and had charging and cooling challenges that are well beyond my abilities.

    Electrical system design questions

First, thank you for this response. You've given me a lot of information that I really needed to hear.  A Prius and trailer a good suggestion. I even looked at that fiberglass Prius mod that turns one into a camper. If I didn't have to tote around a 300 lb. power wheelchair, I would seriously...

    Electrical system design questions

Yeah, I know it's a lot of questions. Honestly, my head is a whirl with them at the moment because of my time frame.  The two big questions are about multiple power inputs to the deep cycle battery and charging from the starter battery. With multiple potential power inputs, what happens if the...

    Electrical system design questions

Over the next two weeks, before my maiden voyage, I will be constructing my electrical system and there are some questions I haven't been able to resolve through web searches and talking to people. I'm hoping you folks can provide a little insight.  I'm going to get some of the Renogy AGM deep...

    Trouble with foam board

Thanks guys. You've given me a lot to think about. I believe that what I'm going to do is back down to foil-faced 1/2" polyiso, put it in layers, and apply it in smaller tiles or strips when necessary. As to glue, I'm thinking I may stick (no pun intended) to the spray adhesive for ease of use...

    Trouble with foam board

John61CT, these sound like good suggestions to me. Thank you. Is spray foam a sufficient adhesive to hold the foam boards in place? I was planning for spray adhesive, probably 3M 77 or 90 and then caulking with silicone and spray foam. Because of certain limitations, there are areas of the...

    Trouble with foam board

That's kind of the way I've been leaning, Johnny B. Weight, I have heard and read nothing of weep holes. Would you please elaborate?

    Trouble with foam board

If I can't get the insulation to adhere to the van along the curvature, there will be open spaces behind it where condensation can collect. That's why I want it to conform to the curvature of the walls.
