Just got an interesting solar quote

I do. I had already purchased a 2000w pure sine inverter. It's more than I'll need but I've already paid for it.

Just got an interesting solar quote

I just got my solar quote from AltE. I know it's pricey, but it includes a $2300 battery so that's the bulk of it.  It looks good, thought I'm probably going to go up to 600w of solar and a larger charge controller. I asked them for soup to nuts solar/battery/charging including charging from...

An RV designed for full time living? (Grand Design)

With the absurd amounts people are willing to spend on their RVs, I've often wondered why some company didn't make a really high-quality, no-corners-cut, full-time-capable RV. It looks like someone is doing it for trailers. Thanks for the link! Is anyone doing it for vans?

    Freeze Dried Foods

I haven't tried Harmony House, but a while back I caught a Woot deal on a week of freeze dried foods from a place called "Patriot Pantry." They bill themselves as "meals for self-reliant patriots." Still for $30 for a week, it seemed like a good idea. On my recent trip I tried some of it...

    Shore power inlets

I did not know there was a standard for that. Please tell me more

Finally !!! I will be getting some $$$ help.

I'm so glad to hear you've gotten through it. I went through it recently myself, though on the SSI side. Anyway, Congratulations!

    Shore power inlets

I may well do that. Alternately, I might get one of the 13a and one pass through and use that for the 30a connection, changing it out to a 13/15a cable when necessary.

    Shore power inlets

I figured that was the case. 13 amps will probably do anyway.

    Shore power inlets

I was hoping for one with a full 15 amp rating. I may have to settle. :)

    Shore power inlets

This is the sort of thing I was looking for. I'm going to either go with this or the one John suggested that's just a pass through housing.  Perhaps I'll put in both so I can get an extra circuit for the AC. I suspect one will be enough though.

This looks like exactly what I was seeking. Thank you.

    Shore power inlets

Mostly I won't be staying at camp sites. This is for when I'm plugged in either at home or at a friend's house where I can plug in someplace I can rely on. I know the connection at home will handle 15 amps and that's the one I care most about.  I know it sounds odd to care most about it at...

    Shore power inlets

I'm not sure I'm picturing what you're describing, but the idea of something more durable is always appealing. Please do go on.

    Shore power inlets

You're probably right. I was hoping to find something ready made that would suit my needs and be durable out of the box. It looks like I'm going to need to rig something up, either this or just do the wiring for a regular connector.  It doesn't sound like what I'm looking for is out there ready...

    Shore power inlets

There is a power wheelchair and a big air conditioner to power as well as any other stuff. Between the AC, the chair, a cpap, and some other minor things, I am coming close to 15a, or at least I'm concerned that I will go over 13a and want to make sure the connection is safe.

    Shore power inlets

That is a really good idea. I think I'm going to start doing that today. Thank you for the suggestion.

    Shore power inlets

I plug in my power chair in the van every night. I have destroyed more charging cables... :)

    Shore power inlets

Marinco was the primary brand I've been looking at.  I thought about using a basic hatch to pass cables through, but in my dreams, I'm hoping to find something solid that will hold in place if I accidentally drive away with the van plugged in (which happens embarrassingly often right now) and...

    Shore power inlets

I can appreciate that, but I don't expect to be using it for campgrounds all that often. For the most part, I want shore power for when I'm parked at a house, either mine or a friend's. I don't expect to be spending much time at campgrounds; when I'm out I expect to be boondocking almost always...

    Shore power inlets

Those are pretty close to what I'm looking for except they'll only take 13 amps. With the AC, I might need that extra 2a. ::) In an ideal world, there would be just a socket instead of a cord coming off of the back and there would be a similar 30 amp one.  Thanks. This is the first one I've...
