    Tiny Homes

I've been researching tiny houses for over 3 years and I'd love to live in one. Most of the builder sites I've been to show that they use earthquake standards to build the homes. You are driving through hurricane-force winds and experiencing earthquake forces everytime you drive anything. A lot...

How did you part with clothes?

Thanks, Angie. What a neat idea! Like you, my parents grew up in the Depression. Dad could live out of a suitcase, because they often did! Mama kept everything. I'm going to think about this as I downsize and I think it'll really help me :)

How did you part with clothes?

Whoops! The lady I was replying to got lost!! But here's what I was going to say to her about what to keep. She said if she got hit by a bus, would her kids know what items meant to her? Great advice! That's what I'm going to do. I'll ask myself "Would she know what it means to me?"

new to forum but no vanlife

Welcome! Like you, I am waiting for my traveling dream. Right now, the snag is my Medicaid services that keep me out of a nursing home. My Case Manager tells me I will lose my services if I am 'homeless'. So, instead of moving into my van this weekend, I'm going crazy trying to find a place to...

Adiamaea Will Be A Vandweller Aug 11, 2018

Well, that was how I planned it. I'm sitting here. My van will come next week. I'm not moving tonight. But, I still have hopes . I have some leads on places to live that I don't want to live. The reason I don't have my van is that the former owner was using it for storage. Because he's late with...

Cheapest way to get set up on assisted GPS

Uh, my three-year-old Nuvi from Garmin came with 'lifetime updates'. At three years could not update it any more. It's in the $100 range. This one has no Bluetooth, so no pairing with a smartphone or computer. It still works [maybe it's four years old now, stopped updating last year or maybe...

Question re: Dispersed Camping in Natl. For.

A lot of them aren't listed. Last year I went to Tellico Plains, TN for a dry run a month before the Great Eclipse in Aug. They had maps of the Distributed Camping. These were not on the Forest Service website. They were free. I drove up the Cherohoula Parkway [SP?] about 30 min away and took...

    SSI and RV

Thanks for posting this! Maybe I have hope that Social Security Disability would continue, too for me. If they give Medicaid for SSI, I wonder if they also keep it for SSDI?

    SSI and RV

I get SSDI. When I get to retirement age, it'll be the same amount, just will be regular Soc Sec retirement. It doesn't become SSI, which is another program for folks who were never able to work.

    SSI and RV

I don't know about SSI, but for SSDI, which is Social Security Disability, they figure it based on your highest ever paying job. You can go to ssa.gov and get a printout which will tell you how much you are eligible for, and for regular retirement, how much depending on what age you are. You can...

    SSI and RV

Also, usps.com [Post Office] now has a service that lets you see what you got in the mail! I just signed up for it. You get messages with images of the mail via email.

    SSI and RV

That's good to hear! I am still investigating my issue. Case Manager says I will lose my Medicaid if I live in a van. I am getting services at home which are: Caregiver visits, Meals On Wheels, and 'panic button'. She says Social Security will assume I'm not disabled and I will lose my Soc Sec...

Adiamaea Will Be A Vandweller Aug 11, 2018

Hi, Everyone! I am 59, mobility disabled, and will be traveling in NW GA with my 2 cats. I will be stealth camping in my new 1994 Chevy Astro white cargo van. Very excited to be joining this community. I need advice on how to insulate my van. Since GA is hot and humid most of the year, should I...
