The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

That's great to hear compassrose. We have a similiar budget, but it does not include as much interior work as you are doing. We still need $250 for interior materials, $300 for exterior paint, $200 for wiring, $200 for interior lighting, $1000 for a generator, $200 for a battery charger, $500...

Battery Hell ! Could really use some advice ...

And my ignorance rears it's ugly head LOL. OK, will check it with a meter as well.

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Ha ha ! I have learned that depression walks hand in hand with a lack of funds, while in the process of converting. I am now fighting the intense fear of facing the electrical system needs on my bus, as it pertains to such a complete lack of knowledge of said matters. It just seems SO very...

Battery Hell ! Could really use some advice ...

OK guys ... I will clean the posts, check the water level. But since the bus runs just fine, the alternator must be charging just fine.

Battery Hell ! Could really use some advice ...

Well I know for sure they are my cranking batteries, as they are the only batteries in the bus. I have to keep jumping the bus to start it, so I know they are dead. I do not have anything wired in the bus yet ... so it is unlikely their is a drain on them.

Battery Hell ! Could really use some advice ...

Hi John ... It is wired in parallel, for a 12 volt system. I have NO choice in this matter : My house batteries and cranking batteries will have to be one in the same. I can not afford two banks of batteries. Here is the only specs I can find on the 6 volt batteries ...

Battery Hell ! Could really use some advice ...

I am lost. My bus came to me with the beginnings of a conversion already started. So I do not know if the battery setup I have now is original, or has been modified. Right now my full length school bus, with NA Cat-3208 has two dead 8D batteries. but here is my problem : I have NO clue if it...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

I'm baaaaack ! LOL After my rather long hiatus, I am finally back in the saddle. Simple reason really : No money. But my income has gained a new and fresh start. Not anything amazing of course, but enough to start placing funds back into "Freedom". I just purchased the wood flooring, and...

    Obtaining a Free Bus

Aargh ! Just 5 months ago, I was living as close as Sisters Oregon from the coast ! Now I am temporarily in Houston TX, while I get the bus converted. I will look around and see what I may find here.

    Obtaining a Free Bus

I have decided to get another large bus, hopefully not running, and raise my bus roof. I have read of people getting old, non running busses for free. Any suggestions on how ? I am in Texas

Please explain to me, why I am crazy for this idea :-)

Oh yes sir ... I definitely would like a nice wood burning stove, especially with a glass viewing door. BUT, what I was asking above, is if a Chimenia with a properly attached vent pipe would not be able to work ? They are small footprint, and will hold less heat than a wood burning stove...

Please explain to me, why I am crazy for this idea :-)

Oh man ... I never even thought of this ! A friend of mine just emailed me, and asked why I don't just get a chimenea, and add a vent out through the roof ! That would be really cool, IF it would work.

Please explain to me, why I am crazy for this idea :-)

I remembered something I saw a friend do, when I was living in Montana. He had a small wooden shed that did not have heat. He bought a stack of bricks, and some mortar, and simply built a small brick fireplace, with a metal pipe vent. Worked perfectly.

Buy a simple opening glass...

Just say no to Honda !

Wagoneer ... I sure feel ya. But being individuals, we will all have differing opinions on what extent we want to take cheaper or green living. I personally have no issues about roughing it, but I DO have a terribly sick wife. And she needs what reasonable comfort I can give to her. This is...

Just say no to Honda !

LOL .... and here we go round again. Well, one thing is for sure : I need to pick ONE route that best suits my needs, and cygvan has already helped me to realize a good way to accomplish this. So instead of being so concerned with brands, I think I will just stick with the best specd generator...

Just say no to Honda !

Hey, hey ... I am no fool ! LOL

I will be sticking with the 2000w Honda then. This is exactly why I started this thread this way Keep setting me straight please. I need all the help I can...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Thank you Nicole. We are going to be very careful, before we proceed. I have looked at it pretty well, and it SEEMS like the bus will be just under that 13.6, the way I plan on raising it. I promise I will make sure first though.
