The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Hello everyone. It has been .... difficult. I am making daily progress, but it is SO slow. The front door from scratch is proving a challenge. I knew it would be, but it seemed my ONLY good option. I had trouble with some Plastic Wood setting up properly. I am going to try for fitment tomorrow...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Ha ha ha ! :D That's about right ! I have few doubts that it is going to be anything less than harder as we go. As I get into better shape, it will become easier as well. I did just kill off one of my nine lives a short while ago however. I WAS ABLE to get the friggin couch in the bus ...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

WOW ! I am exhausted today. I have several big updates. The day before yesterday, we finally found a SECURE place to park our bus. It is now only about 5 miles away ( instead of 20 ), and it is now in a secured RV storage place. Much, much better. This is good, because all of our belongings we...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Never thought of painting the magnets LOL. Good idea. This was my initial thought process. BUT we just spent $85 on magnets, just to get the curtains hung. Strong magnets are expensive, and I would need fairly strong ones, as the screens have to withstand curious cats wanting out.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, there is not any wood going in the jamb at all. That is what I was saying : ZERO room for wood. It will have to be an all metal opening, except for the top and bottom sill. With you speaking of JB Weld .... I assume you are still thinking I should just drill...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Ok ... In this photo, where the temporary latch hasp is installed, THAT is the flat steel which is now my door jamb. The opposite one on the other side of the door jamb is about 3.5" wide. But these steel vertical beams are becoming my door jamb. And THIS is what I have to make hinges work with...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

31-3/8" x 79-1/4" The issues are these : I'm using a 1.75" thick solid core door for security. Also using regular 'home' style door knobs and deadbolts, hardware, and hinges. I am putting in a home slider window. I wanted a LARGE sliding window in the door, so finding one reasonably large and...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Yuck ! Our bus must have been made for import to a small Asian country somewhere .... Because this front door is NOT made for today's standard humans ! LOL Or maybe 'we' were just that much smaller in 1985, when the bus was made :P It is official, and I am now starting to worry ...

Oh yeah ... I also need ideas about making simple screens for the side windows. I was planning on using velcro, but I can not get over ruining interior appearances with big strips of velcro. How about some other ideas you may have ? Thanks

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Yeah ... this would be the ultimate scenario. But as I was recently reminded ; This IS the cheaper living forum LOL. I have dual latch catches ; one on each side of every compartment door. At two actuaters per door, that would cost me $200+ ... I say this because the actuator rods are fairly...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

I now have a couple of new questions to ask. My old ( no longer any good ) 8D batteries were stolen from my bus recently. Which of course tells me my bus is NOT in a safe location. Now that I am about to start installing expensive items in the bus, I have to come up with a way to start locking...

The Conversion of "Freedom" , our permanent bus home...

Ah hah ! BIG update time !!! We have now ordered most of the needed supplies for the bus ... heater, mattress, generator, exterior paint, bedroom curtain material, etc ... And we expect most of it to show up in a week or so. I have already received the counter-sunk magnets, and I am just...

Ah hah ! Maybe there is hope after all ! LOL I will test a spot and see how it does. Thanks

Time to paint the exterior ..

Only thing is this Zil ... The white spray paint is frustratingly stuck on, yet oxidized and bad. The white would be best if removed. But there is a LOT of it for one person to try and do. At this point, I am assuming a 3500 psi pressure washer would be my best chance. If I HAVE to paint over...

Time to paint the exterior ..

Man, I have been soooooooooo tempted to use oven cleaner. But I am afraid it would also remove or compromise the original yellow paint below the white spray crap. I tried a COMPLETELY USELESS $8 can of Grafitti Remover from Home Depot ..... useless !!!

Time to paint the exterior ..

LOL ... Ok then. I will wait to paint until I get to Cali. I just figured an old half painted school bus which is peeling and half painted mess, would get pulled over a lot. As far as meds .... only in the evenings. Never while driving.

So mixing it with a paint hardener/dryer will not overcome the temps ? Thanks

Time to paint the exterior ..

Hello again ... I need help please. I have a tough choice to make. I wanted to paint my bus before we leave for parts West. I have only ONE set of days I could do this even ... That would be the upcoming 13th through 16th. Those days will only have a high of 65 degrees though .... and it sill...

Solar in the Pacific Northwest ..... Feasible ?

Damn .... This may get the award of "thankfully straightforward" ! Thanks for setting me straight fast ! I will assemble the closet, after obtaining 110 v.
