    FLU and precautions

Eight years of dating a molecular biologist, in my younger years, turned me into a major germaphobe.   Now if I see people so much as sniffling, sneezing or just looking sick, I won't go anywhere near them...   If it's a pot-luck and I see sick people anywhere near the communal food items, I'm...

Can I run my inverter off my charge controller?

I just meant that I could install a fuse in the wire going to the inverter, not the wire that already has a 25A fuse and goes to the battery.   I wasn't sure if that was necessary or not.  Just being careful. The wire with the 25A fuse is the one that connects to the 12V side of the CC and runs...

Opinion on 05 GMC Savanna 80k miles 10ft cube onan, dually, heat, roof AC barn doors

Wow!  32,000 miles and only $8,000?!  Unless I missed some glaring defect in the drivetrain or electrics, that's a screaming deal! Around here that truck would sell for over $22,000. (Welcome to the $F Bay Area)...   :-/

Can I run my inverter off my charge controller?

Thanks, guys, this has been a huge help! I'm just gong to clamp the wires to the inverter underneath the wires leading from the CC to the battery.   Maybe toss in a 25 or 30 Amp fuse while I'm at it... Though I'm told the inverter has an internal 25A fuse.   If I'm able to safely plug the...

Can I run my inverter off my charge controller?

Darn.  I just found this in the owners manual for the Morningstar SunSaver SS-MPPT-15L.. "CAUTION: Do not wire any AC inverter or other inductive load such as a motor, pump, compressor or generator to the load terminals of the SunSaver MPPT." "Damage to the load control circuit may result...

Can I run my inverter off my charge controller?

Does it make any difference that the battery in question is the unit under the hood of the van that's connected to the alternator?   It's a Northstar AGM and the inverter will only be used while the engine is running, and even then, only used to charge a laptop and maybe a cordless razor.

Can I run my inverter off my charge controller?

I just noticed there's an extra set of terminals on my Mornigstar MPPT charge controller that are labeled as "Load".   These terminals are on the 12 Volt side of the controller.   Since I'm able to safely run my 400W inverter off of my 15A fused, Acc / cigarette outlet, would it be possible to...

    FLU and precautions

And if you do go to the RTR, please refrain from giving hugs, kisses and handshakes to your new and long time friends. I know it sounds silly, but that's how the flu is spread, and people, sick or not, do like to shake hands with folks they've just met. I imagine they'll be quite a bit of...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

OK, I got one. I found a Wagan Tech, "Elite 400 Watt Pro" PSW inverter at Fry's Electronics.   List was $130, but they price-match Amazon prices, so I got it for $104.  I actually went there for the "Elite 200 Watt Pro", but noticed the 400 right next to it on the shelf and thought...

    DIY Portable Toilets

To date I've been using a Camco 5 gallon, flushable camp toilet, but I'm getting really sick of the hassle involved when it comes time to empty the holding tank. (you can't just dump it into a garbage can or dumpster)   It also takes up a lot of room in the van and can't be used for anything but...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

Weight.  We're in complete agreement about using the original power cords, especially when powering something as expensive and potentially touchy as my MacBook Air.   I'm really not too keen on plugging it into one of those cheap Acc.-powered chargers.   I still plan to get a PSW inverter, just...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

I'm still planning to get a PSW, right now I'm just looking for an easy and quick way to recharge my Mac while on the road this weekend.   Loosening up of the Acc. outlets is something I have noticed too. To be honest, I'm starting to wonder if I need my laptop on road trips at all.  If my...

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my!

My system is to never camp where I'm not at the top of the food chain.  Problem solved.  :P

Anyone use a compact 12V vacuum cleaner?

Around here the vacuums at the car wash aren't free.  You have to keep feeding quarters into the slot or it turns off in the middle of your work.  Personally I find it annoying and a bit stressful that I have to rush to get it done.   As for the Bissell Lift Off, that's way too big to fit in my...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

I didn't really believe the 500A comment either, but being an electrical boob, and had ask in case, as I often do, I has misquoted what I read. I found this on Amazon ---> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DA29ES8/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2AZX3U4LEII4O&colid=3RXTXFO12V95Z&psc=1 It's only rated for...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

From everything I've read, the Acc/lighter plug is only if your using less than 100 Watts, which theoretically should be enough for the 85-100W draw of the laptop, but just barely.  I have no intention of using that plug, though.  I'd much rather hardwire it straight to the battery.     No room...

New to inverters. Have some Q's.

I found this --->  https://www.amazon.com/Samlex-Solar-PST-300-12-Pure-Inverter/dp/B00H8N97E2/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1515481582&sr=8-7&keywords=300+watt+sine+wave+inverter Samlex Solar PST-300-12 PST Series Pure Sine Wave Inverter. From the reviews and answered questions I've found on Amazon...

Anyone use a compact 12V vacuum cleaner?

No perfectionism here, just a slob that wants to be able to suck up the crumbs I tends to drop around the driver's seat of my van, before they attract ants.   I'm not living in my van.  It's way too small for that, for me anyway.  I just thought it would be nice to have a compact system I could...

    Which Brand AGM?

I run a Northstar AGM under the hood of my van in place of the stock starter battery. It pulls double-duty as both my starter and house battery. Works great!

    RTR internet this year

I keep meaning to get a hotspot for my iPhone, but the added expense always stops me. Well that and I live in area with plenty of service. One day I hope to make the RTR, though, and having a HS would be a big help when I want to download and post photos from the road. Nice to know there...
