Idling engine to power AC or heater

That's a good idea. Also, as we all know, the cooler we keep those panels, the more efficient they are. Except for the tiny power draw from those little fans, that would be free heat. Even if it was not enough to do the job by itself, it's free so even a little free heat is still good. I...

Idling engine to power AC or heater

I had to look up the formula for poor man's fiberglass and see there is one for using on wood, and the other for using on foam. Looks like a great material to be able to make so, thanks for mentioning it. I watched that Hobotech video on the "heat pump" from EcoFlow. He does excellent testing...

Idling engine to power AC or heater

I have less than $600 in my 5,000 BTU Keystone Energy Star window AC unit (Draws 446 watts) and my Champion 2,000 watt inverter generator. (1,700 watts continuous) I looked around for a long time and I doubt I could find a cheaper/better solution. Later on down the road, I am going to install...

    Hey All

That is a great resource on the state laws and I thank you for posting it. (I am still reading it) Interesting that it points out that many of the issues being discussed are locally controlled by municipalities or counties rather than the state. That is a good thing to know. I can not...

    Hey All

Yes, and I admit I never would have thought to search that way and I am glad you suggested it as it is a great idea.

Yes, I usually remove everything beyond the "?" because it is not needed. It was a short link so I decided not to. It still should have worked for him as it was though? (Maybe the tracking code set off something in his security software?) Thanks for pointing this out.

    Rocket stove and thermos cooking

Those are awesome and work really well. One of those is on my list for later on once I pay off some of the stuff I bought for the van to get it ready. I was not familiar with that particular brand but it has excellent reviews and I like the size too. Thanks for posting about it.

Idling engine to power AC or heater

I just tried the link in my post and it worked fine here and, I also tried the link in your post where you quoted me (and the link) and it worked fine here too. I am not sure what else I can do from this end? (PS I always test links before I post them just to make sure they work, just an old...

    Hey All

Good tip. I would also suggest people do their own research to double check what the real estate listing says or what the agents tell you. I was looking at a really nice lot up very near the lake here and I told the agent I wanted to buy it to park an rv on it where I would stay between...

    libraries

I have had a library card since I was a kid in the 1960's. Whenever I moved, I made sure to get a new card for the local library. Sad to say, I think Spaceman Spiff is probably right with his predictions even though libraries are making decent advances utilizing technology. Myself, as an...

    Driving in Mountains and Hills

Just to add a point here to all of this great advice and tips from everyone about mountain driving, besides being killed or hurting someone else, overheating the brakes, even if you think you "got away with it again" can warp your rotors, especially if it is raining and they get cooled rapidly...

    Hey All

Thanks. I don't doubt it, everything else has gone up, a lot. Still sounds like an excellent deal to me and it is on my growing list of places to check out when traveling out to the west. Paying $100/month average to have a "home base" with facilities is an attractive idea to me, well, except...

    Hey All

There is that place that Bob Wells reviewed a while back where this guy has a huge piece of property and charges people about $1,000/year to rent a space there. I can't recall the pricing but to get the cheaper rate which is around $1,000, you pay it all at once) He has a nice laundry there...

    I need to be free

One quote I remember reading in a Tony Robbins book about 30 years ago that I really liked and still remember to this day is: "We can not control what happens to us in our lives, but we have total control over how we react to what happens." I am very glad that you came here and are getting so...

    Drok DCDC stabilizer fried

Excellent points and suggestions. I agree that heat is the enemy of all electronics. I even mounted a large computer fan heat sink on my micro computer for some additional passive cooling which lowered the operating temperature about 15 degrees. It was not getting super hot or anything but, I...

    Cummins Canoe (A Stepvan Story)

Really nice work on that engine and turbo. I hope you get 600,000, or more, trouble free miles out of her now.
