    Inexpensive But Decent Mattress?

Thank you. The first one is exactly what I have been looking around for but I need it to be wider than 24". I wish they offered it in 30 or 34 or thereabouts. The 2nd link it really great also except I do not have 75" in length across my van. I am just under 6 ft. and to get that I am making...

    Sleeping on a slant

A small square of plywood or something similar would protect the floor. Since you fold up your bed during the day, you can pick up the squares and stow them too. As far as your weight being on the bed, even if the bolts are coarse threads you will have a tremendous mechanical advantage and...

    Sleeping on a slant

Well, you could run them up and down with a ratchet wrench then. It would take a little longer but not a lot and, I do not think there would be a lot of resistance on the bolts as there would not be all that much weight on them so, a ratchet should work fine.

    Inexpensive But Decent Mattress?

I have one more solar panel to install then, I am starting on my bed build. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent mattress that does not cost a lot of money? I can upgrade it later on down the road but just need something to get started with that is comfortable. The best I could find...

Refill 8 oz butane canister with propane?

That's not something I would do but, that's up to you of course. I use both containers and a 1 pound propane canister is much heavier built than that butane bottle. I am guessing they are made that way for a reason probably? My single burner stove will run off of both fuels although the...

Van Life Farm Overlooking the River in Nashville

You are only about an hour south of me up here in Kentucky. I bet it is nice down there by the river. I would be interested.

    Hey All

Wow! The last fellow to use that outhouse must have eaten a bunch of bean burritos for it to be blown off the foundation like that. It's a 2-holer so you know there had to be some blowback. I bet he won't do that again.

    Weather Outlook 23/24

I have the NOAA broadcasts on my GMRS two way radios and I also have a weather radio with alert I can activate. I always check the radar to see what is happening, or about to happen. I learned long ago that Mother Nature is to be respected.

Idling engine to power AC or heater

If it were me, I learned that any time water is heated you need a failsafe (blow-off valve) in case your heat source, in this case you mentioned propane, or the thermostat malfunctions. Otherwise, you will have made a very powerful explosion device as steam expands to 1600 times its original...

    steering wheel tray

When Bill Lear (Of Lear Jet fame) invented the car radio, there were no radios in cars at that time and, the government would not allow them as listening to the radio would be too distracting for drivers. It took Bill a long time to convince the government that people could indeed drive and...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

I found out that some brilliant guy made a nice kit that I might be able to use to extract this bolt, even though there was no way I could see to get a drill in there to drill it out. I watched about 5 videos of people using this $30 kit successfully so I ordered one, along with another new...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

Well, I had a bit of an adventure. A week ago or so I had a bad wheel bearing I was going to change out so I ordered new bearings and seals for the rear left and right sides. I also bought a gallon of gear oil (which cost $50) and a new differential cover gasket. This van has free floating...

    window van security?

I agree with maki2 that when out in the back country, it will be fine. As you can see I have a conversion van with those large windows. One would have been fine but I have 3 of them. A human or a bear could easily get into the van though one of them so, I looked around to see if anyone made...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

I'm no doctor, but I think the pool is an excellent idea. I remember reading a few years back, (maybe 15 years or more?) that someone finally got the bright idea of exercising injured race horses in a pool. The pool was deep enough that it took most of the weight off the injured limbs and they...

    steering wheel tray

Whack jobs indeed. I have seen more than one person driving down the interstate with a laptop on a steering wheel tray and, no surprise here, they kept running off the road onto the shoulder. If someone were changing a tire there they would have been killed. Safe travels.

Idling engine to power AC or heater

Yes, sorry I "assumed" you meant windmill towers. I have never heard of wind towers so I have no research or links to them.

Idling engine to power AC or heater

If your window unit is efficient (think Energy Star rated) then you should be able to run it from solar with all that sun. The cheap 5,000 BTU window unit that I posted about several times now, (about $200) draws only 446 watts and can be easily run from solar and/or a cheap gas inverter...
