Finding no frills RV parks

Well... I want to carry other cargo as well in addition to the scooter. I am going to be full timing so all my stuff is going to be with me.

    Finding no frills RV parks

I am mainly pulling it so I can carry a 125cc scooter for riding at stops. It will greatly help offset the van's terrible MPG. The van will get around 10-11.. and the scooter gets about 90-95. I wanted a much smaller lighter trailer at first but it didn't pan out.. lost money on it but managed...

anybody living in travel trailers with no truck to haul them?

You can also rent Uhaul cargo vans for about $20/a day. They are V8 Ford Econolines... 1 ton maybe?

And yes, I lived in my 67 shasta in an RV park for 6 months in 2008 without a vehicle that could tow it. I had a friend with a truck move it for me.

    Finding no frills RV parks

Having a 20ft Class B that is obviously an RV.. plus pulling a utility trailer behind it, I won't have any stealth and I will take up a lot of space to park, so urban boon docking is out for me, short of truck stops or Wal-Mart.

I am an unusual creature in that I am going to be full...

Replace the engine - best value

A Class B or C uses a normal van engine so it would be as cost effective as a full size cargo or conversion van as far as engine replacement. But you'd have to find other accommodations.

    car camping - long term

I had considered buying a used prius at one time... but the cost of the drivetrain batteries costs as much as a decent low priced used (gas) car so I shied away from them. It's like an engine with a time bomb in it, in my opinion. Big expense that can suddenly come up on you that costs to...

    anyone homesteading?

Yes, didn't mean any malice by it. Just the way it looks now just would make me nervous if that's all there was going to be to hold up such a large structure over something I was living in and my vehicle.

An Anti-Stealth Idea for the Van

It has a dropped floor in part of it where nothing is needed on the van (would normally be open air space) which permits the headroom.

It has a 360. I haven't driven it enough to know what the MPG is yet. I drove it twice before I bought it. I drove it home after I bought...

An Anti-Stealth Idea for the Van

It varies where you are in the van. I can fully stand up when I step in from the side. Also I can fully stand up around the stove and sink. You have to bend over to get into the bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) and the bed, and of course to get to the front seats. I'm about 5' 10".

I...

    anyone homesteading?

That new structure you're building doesn't look very heavy duty. I'd do at least double as much of a structure for something that large.

    anyone homesteading?

I would be mainly concerned with if it would be legal to "live" there (where ever you buy land) with a septic system and a well. That's the main two things you need. For energy to power the well, solar+battery bank and/or a generator would work great.

I guess I'd also be concerned...

    Sleeping days, up at night

In my opinion, it's easier to be awake when it's hot than sleep when it's hot.

Once as a kid we stopped to camp in Needles, CA at dusk around April at the KOA. It was so hot that night that we slept outside the tents uncovered and it was miserable and almost impossible to even get to...

    Sleeping days, up at night

I'm not sure what the point would be. You would be limited to businesses that are only open 24 hours which are few and far between.

Even some like Walgreens, not ALL have the pharmacy open 24 hours Only Walmart Supercenters are open 24hours so if you're somewhere with only a basic...

    There goes my stealth, lol.

Comfort is more important than stealth in my opinion. What good is stealth if you're miserable in your 'home'?

tell me what you think of this van

Seems like a good deal but buying a vehicle that low, I'd expect to have to put at least $3,000 into it. Stuff adds up quick. Shocks/suspension (ball joints etc), steering (tie rods etc), alignment, tires, brakes, air filter... etc etc.

I had planned to have about $1500-2000 less in...

An Anti-Stealth Idea for the Van

Stealth boils down, in my opinion, to looking like you aren't a poor drifter. Having a vehicle that is pleasing to the eyes is a big help.

People love the look of my old 1978 Dodge Class B. It looks so nice for a 78. Old Class C's don't look as good. They tend to look more...

    car camping - long term

I kinda tried but gave up after 6 days. I tried to do it with a Taurus station wagon and a tent. It was WAY too confining for me personally. I ended up stuck in the tent and it rained almost everyday and the tent was leaking so I had to put a tarp over it. It felt like I was in a solitary...
