    Your experience with all-electric vans

I'm with Bullfrog. And besides the Prius (esp. the discontinued Prius V, which is more "station wagon" shaped), Toyota also offers the excellent Sienna minivan with a hybrid powertrain. As far as electric vehicles for nomads, I'd stick with hybrids for now.

Would a pro-built conversion van make the most sense for me?

For a simple, non-DIY van conversion, I find the Wayfarer kits for the RAM Promaster, smaller Promaster City, and the Ford Transit an attractive option. Looks to be well-built and on the less expensive side, relatively speaking. Would get basic needs met and give you lots of room for...

    Digital Nomad

Hey, me too! I've been an IT geek for 30+ years, but my degree is in "Human Development" (what they called Psychology at the state univ campus I attended). Unix & network administration at first, and cybersecurity for the last 12-13 years.

Thousands travel out of Burning Man as desert turns to mud

Which, of course, is fine. Heck, Burning Man isn't my cup of tea in general. But Sarah Jane (Wonderhussy) seems like an OK sort. Certainly a free spirit, but I think she'd be fun to have a beer with and trade stories... (note that I'm partial to free-spirited Southern gals anyway)

    Cowboy Trail

Many years ago I lived in the Four Corners region of Colorado. One of the more remote Anasazi ruins to visit is Hovenweep National Monument near Montezuma Creek, UT. It's really out in the "middle of nowhere." They have a small, 31-site campground near the visitor center.

    When it's time to stop.

Oregon has their Death With Dignity Act, which as of March 2022 no longer enforces a residency requirement. Here's the top level website at oregon.gov about it, with links to a FAQ page, etc...

RV park life, is it affordable for low income?

Guy at the inspection station we go to in D/FW said yes, safety inspections go away. But emissions inspections do not.

    Toyota prius questions

My son bought a gently used Prius V a few years ago. It's a discontinued body style (2012-2017) that looks more like a "station wagon" than the others. Has lots of space inside - my 6'2" son was able to sleep stretched out in the back with the rear seats folded, along with his (shorter)...

RV park life, is it affordable for low income?

Lived in rural Illinois for five years when I was a teenager. "Dreary, cold Winters" is an understatement. And yeah, Summer is hot and muggy. Worst climate I ever lived in. I'd take Colorado or New Mexico Winters anytime. Colder ? Yeah, sometimes. But once it snows the clouds generally go away...

cheap small device (but with keyboard) specifically for surfing Web - recommendations?

Ahhh...it's called "Prime Day" and is July 11-12 this year. :)

cheap small device (but with keyboard) specifically for surfing Web - recommendations?

With "Amazon Day" (or whatever it's officially called) coming up soon, people wanting one of those Fire tablets should keep an eye on their website. Those get pretty big discounts during this time, as well as during Black Friday in the Fall...

    What are you reading?

I just read the next installment of Charlie Stross' The Laundry Files series. If you like extremely well-written and engaging dark urban fantasy mixed with Lovecraftian horror, this is for you! The first novel in the series is The Atrocity Archives, and the wiki devoted to the series suggests a...

    small AC cooling without hookup.

I've seen bullfrog make this comment on more than one discussion thread and it's really the best take for now. Viewed more than one Youtube video where someone was sleeping in a Prius (one of their plug-in hybrid models, if I recall), set the automatics climate control to a certain temp & the AC...

Looking to get a hightop installed.

Somewhat closer than Calif., tho' still definitely out West, is Wasatch Overland in West Valley City, UT. They're authorized installers of Tufport Fiberglass High-Tops from Canada.

Visible: Complete your required phone upgrade. Get a $100 gift card.

We have Visible in the metro D/FW area in Texas and this is definitely not true for us. Yes, as a std. Visible customer, your data rate is subject to Quality of Service (QoS) rules that might limit data rates on really congested cell towers. I rarely notice data speed issues, and I'm a std...

If you decide to try it out, ask me or any other Visible customer here on the forum. Any of us can add you to our "friends and family plan" and lower your bill by a bit. Visible opened up those plans for anyone, you don't have to be literal family. https://www.visible.com/plans/bring-a-friend

I was about to come post these very links, but Carla beat me to it (y). Well made and well worth watching if you're interested in this topic.

Visible: Complete your required phone upgrade. Get a $100 gift card.

Another reasonably happy Visible customer here. Had it a few years and am generally pleased. Only run into a few no-service areas or times my speed has been throttled. You can fix the network congestion / throttling issues (most of the time) by paying for their slightly more expensive Visible+...

Homelessness [split from Leadville and Salida Ranger Districts]

Agree, it is a good video. Looking forward to part 2. I also noted how many of the interviewees actually had jobs, even high-paying ones like that fellow who was a software developer. And yet Cost of Living is so high in the SF Bay area that even "software developer" guy wanted to find...
