Everyone knows if wind is expected, to aim your rig into the wind, right?

Knowing and doing are two different things.

A site may not allow the option of changing your orientation into the wind.
Driving to some where else in high winds is not advisable.

All of the best options are not available all the time. Use your brain and do the best you can.

There are lots of variables to such “rules”.
Sometimes nose to the wind is not the one best thing. With a 90 degree shift after dark on that strong wind storm I would have had to stay up late and relocate in the dark in mid storm to match the wind shift to stay nose to the wind. But I knew what was coming and about the shift in the wind direction so I was all setup to deal with it in an adaptive method.

Of course my travel trailer and my tow vehicle are about the same length so my issue was easy to fix by using my SUV snugged up along the length of my travel trailer as a wind brake on the west side and the first part of the storm was from the South and I was already facing nose into the wind for that.

But basically I was just being lazy and did not feel like cleaning off the counters, hitching up and moving my trailer, unhitching and setting up the stabilizer jacks again only to need to move it back once more and reset the jacks into the position for the best solar input orientation.

guess that’s an advantage of a van... but a trailer, if you moved every time the wind changed you’d go nuts. Especially this year.

The wind just did a 180 direction change this afternoon according to the app “Windy”. That means I am now tail into the wind instead of nose to the wind without moving my trailer. Rock around the clock

I found the "nose into the wind" advice on another channel I follow last year. I am currently mooch-docking in a friend's driveway, so my nose is pointed to the NE 24/7. There is no room to move it anywhere else at this location, unfortunately.

The good news is that the rig is about 15,000 lbs, so it would allegedly take a strong sustained wind to knock her over. Fingers crossed.

When people here offer info or advice, it is rarely an absolute, for all people, under all conditions, in all places.

When I get possibly useful information, I try to put it into memory and retain it there for future use. I have never used this piece of info crosswise in a crowded parking lot, right in front of a police department's front door, on a stranger's lawn, or in a commercial campground so I can annoy my neighbors.

Try to adapt to current conditions, not the conditions of last week.

In the summertime at Bird Island Park within the Padre Island National Seashore, there is a campsite host that doesn't take any chances with his little camper trailer. He goes over the camper, in a strategic manner, with a tow strap and anchors it down with some serious stakes. I think he stated he had a close call one time.

I knew you were being helpful, I should have just said "thank you." I've learned more on this forum in a few months than any other resource. So thank you, and everyone else who shares this type on info.

Hopefully this Wednesday will be the last of the strong winds for a while. With the temperature going back to 70 degrees on Saturday we are long past due for string of at least a few really pleasant days for hanging out in lawn chairs, exploring, or catching up on some build or outdoor chores.

March is officially in like a lion in the Yuma area. Just got slammed with what must have been a 60mph+ gust. Took the neighbor’s brand new satellite TV dome right off the stand. He has gone into town for the day. He had to get a new one last week because the last one got ruined by the wind. Well hopefully it will still work despite the “egg falling off the wall” event.

Special event this evening. If the sky clears to the West after sunset you will see Venus and Jupiter in their closest alignment.

Saw that yesterday evening from Amargosa Valley, didn't know what it was, but knew it was unusual.
