The following is the actual experience I had with Acorns online banking. I had been a customer for about a year, and became very frustrated with the lack of customer service. If the offshore rep couldn't help you, they would refer your problem to a "supervisor" who would call you in 2 to 3 days. I never received a phone call back, and the responses I received by email were never on point.

So I decided, enough is enough. The following is the verbatim review I just provided on Trustpilot.com:
I called Acorns and asked them for the procedure to close my account. They said they would send me an e-check, and I clearly instructed the rep to NOT do anything until I found out how I could deposit an e-check. She agreed. Later the same day, I received an email saying that my account had been closed, and an e-check had been emailed. I called and asked why and what happened, and I was told I would get a call within 2 to 3 days. Of course, this never happened. I then contacted Lincoln Savings, the actual bank behind Acorns, and never received a call back. I paid almost 25 dollars to cash the check on Friday. On Wednesday, I received a call from the check cashing service, saying that the check had been stopped, and I had to return the money. After calling Acorns again, I was informed that they re-opened my account, and put the money back in, and stopped the check. Over the weekend, during the time my account was closed, they charged my new bank $3.00 for my monthly subscription fee. I never authorized them to close the account, or to re-open the account, nor did I give them permission to charge anything against my new bank account.

I have been dealing with Chime for several months, and am happy so far with their support.

Acorns is an investment site for people who don't have lots of cash to invest.

Their slogan was[is?] "From tiny acorns, mighty oaks grow".

I was using Acorns back before 2000. One could buy a fractional share of a security, then add to that over time. Never had an occasion to interact with customer service. Closed the account with no issues.

Do your own due diligence.

I am not familiar with that company, but I would diffentaly be asking them to cover all those service costs!

I switched to online banking with my credit union several years ago and I have not had any problems since I switched over. I used to write about 20 checks a month and now I only write one or two for small local businesses. I can enter the check up to 30 days and they will pay the bill on that date. I pay no service fees what so ever. It's awesome.

If you qualify, USAA Savings Bank is the best option. After 17 years I am nothing but pleased. Instant credit transfer on most deposits. I pay regular bills automatically online so never a late fee or overdraft. Free cash (no fee) from most ATM. I have auto insurance with them also. 24 hour service.

If you qualify look into it.

Find a credit union you can join. Most of them offer the same online services as any bank, and the fees are more reasonable. I have no issues whatever with my credit union, and I've been a customer for going on 40 years now!

As others have noted, Acorns is not primarily a banking operation. Which might have contributed toi the customer service issues.

Same here (only 10 years though). They've been great, and very easy to work with online. (And by phone.)

I agree that credit unions are the way to go. Unfortunately, they are less forgiving for past sins.... After a pretty bad breakup about 8 years ago, my ChexSystems rating took a real hit. I've tried to resolved it, but they still have me blacklisted. I'm trying another credit union on Monday.
