When my wife and I decided to retire, she was not interested in "roughing it" in a van so I bought a cargo van and renovated it. I have taken 3 extended trips and a couple of local camping trips in it and loved it. Now she would like to travel with me as long as I make it more comfortable. This can not happen in my cargo van because there just isn't enough room for the two of us. I am thinking about upgrading to a high top extended van and not sure if a dealership will take my van as a trade with the modifications I have made. I added a after market back up cam (simple dash mounted moniter), small roof vent, a side window, and an RV plug (which currently only connects to one outlet). It has a cabinette installed in the van where I stored my kitchen stuff (plates, pots, silverware), everything else can be easily removed. I built a rope bed with a drawer under part of it and it is very comfortable. It is a 2016 Ford Transiet Cargo van with a little over 45,000 miles. Kelly Blue Book has it's value at around $24,000 and I would like to get $22,000.

Sorry to hear that Tony..........You have the little van

You forgot the word "CONNECT" in your Van description !

No doubt you could get a trade in, vans of any size are in high demand. The small vans are perfect for the local independent contract by the job delivery servicessuch as those that contract with Amazon or grocery stores. But you might not get the dollars a private sale will bring.

Nice build!
For the record, I think that's a Transit Connect. A big distinction from the Transit- just ask your wife!

I sold my 2018 Ford Transit Connect to a dealer in 2021 (not a trade in) for about as much as I had paid for it new after I had upsized to a Ford Transit. They wanted to have some vans on their lot as the demand had been going up. Dealers had not been at all generous with trade in prices when looking for the new vehicle so I decided to sell it myself. . A high roof Transit extended would give you plenty of room for two if done right. I built out a Transit medium roof, long wheelbase, non-extended. It would be challenging for two but that might be more about the design choices I made. It's still a comfortable size vehicle for maneuvering and parking. Factors that were important to me.

FYI: We got a letter in the mail last week from the dealership who sold us our van, we paid 19K for it new.. the letter goes on the read, that the dealership wants to buy back our van for.. ready for this.. 34k. Are we going to sell? Hell no I'm having to much fun with my "sleeper" sports car.

If it were me? I go hunting for a new van immediately (depending on how much you've built it out, of course) ... and see if you can find a good deal. Then, sell the van and pocket the remaining.

Maybe they can find something decent from a private seller but dealers here are paying outrageous prices for used vehicles because they're selling them for even more. I can't find a new van for anything near $34,000 from a dealer.

The objective here, is to NOT buy someone else mistake when you buy used. start clean and that's what we did. Plus we have too much involved in this right now to stop. We're keeping this van. So even if a dealership or private buyers offers us 3x, 4x or even 5x as much, we're still not selling. I've waited too long for a sports car and now I'm having one custom made out of the van.

Agreed.

May, 2022.
We traveled through Sacramento, California, on the way to my sister's Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary in Grass Valley (a couple hours east in the mountains).
.
We stopped for supper in North Highlands at Golden Corral buffet...
... and people kept bumping our table, asking if we want to sell our ExpeditionVehicle.
As we looked around, we saw folks on their telephones, looking at us then looking at our rig then looking back at us.
.
Get this:
Bidding started at us$139,000.
Somebody else showed up, and jumped the bid to us$160,00... "and we can go to the bank right now!"
.
I wandered over to the midget corn-dogs -- soup-bowl in hand (the little dickens scatter right off a plate) -- and in those two minutes I was away, the crowd was nearly in a brawl, yelling nincompoopery such as "I said a quarter mil first, you [nincompoop]!"
.
After I sat down, I calmly quietly said "If I hear an even million, we have a deal."
They called me all kinds of names -- 'corn-dog eater!' was the nicest -- as they all stomped off in a huff.
.
A half-hour later, as I was dipping my strawberries in the chocolate fountain, a gal slipped a note in my pocket, and whispered "It will take me a while to come up with the money, but if you are still interested in selling..."
.
Fact is, we would never think of selling.
We have too much fun at these impromptu auctions...
