Texas. Should you go there now?

In the news last week was the platform that the Texas GOP has offered up. It is basically a reversion back many decades. The tone and substance of this document is shocking and abhorrent.

I would advise anyone that is a minority or a woman to avoid Texas. A very clear message has been sent to let us know what Texas thinks about these groups. If the Texas GOP has their way, women and minorities will become 3rd class citizens. I would not trust law enforcement to be fair and certianly not the judicial system.

I will not venture into Texas in the near future. I lived there for 3+ years. I know that there are good people in Texas.. I know a few of them... but bigotry and hate are taking over the Great State of Texas.

I say these things not because I "hate Texas", but because I do not think it is safe for myself and other Nomads to enter Texas at this time. I would not feel safe from being hassled and I am as white as they get ... my friends with alternate lifestyles or my friends of color.. Texas is a dangerous place for you to be.. I cut off my ponytail for two reasons, it uses too much water, and more importantly I did not want to be judged because of it, especially in Texas.

I did not write this to get into an argument, but to let those that do not follow the news to know the lay of the land in places they may travel.

Wasn't planning a trip to Tejas anytime soon, but more info on what you perceive is needed!

I LOVE TEXAS and I call BS.. It would be best if the warning went out to avoid most major cites controled by dems. Get real high crime, legal drug use, legal theft, tent cities and neighborhoods you dare not drive in where police don't go.

The webinars will feature subject-matter experts offering actionable advice for Texas women business owners and entrepreneurs on starting, growing, and sustaining a business.

Each of the weekly webinars, offered at no cost and in partnership with the Beacon State Fund, will take a deep dive into important topics and available resources for women-owned small businesses and women entrepreneurs in Texas.

Additionally, an in-person event, the Governor’s Small Business Series – Honoring Women-Owned Businesses, will be co-hosted by the Governor’s Commission for Women, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism, and the Beacon State Fund on Thursday, October 6, in South Padre Island. The event will be an opportunity to network with other business owners and hear first-hand from experts who will share timely, relevant, actionable information on a multitude of small business topics.

The Governor’s Commission for Women will also host a women-owned small business pitch competition following the webinars and in-person event, with awardees selected for each region of Texas.

I thought the rules stated No Political Discussions.

That was one of the things that made me want to come to this forum.
Is that rule still intact, or has it been abandoned?
Just want to know because I make a point of always avoiding political discussions. and forums on which there are political discussions.

I would say that wehave a diverse group here, including those being targeted by The Texas GOP, and they should take extreme care if they are visiting Texas. Many Nomads intentionally avoid the news, and may not have heard this.

This fall when/if the GOP in Texas gains and retains power, it will not be a safe place to be for a lot of Americans. That is my concern.. if the Ds proposed this same set of rules I would post the same.. this is about people and the risks they are taking by entering the State.

I think this issue affects the Nomad community directly and they need to know.

Since I live in Texas I am biased. Even so, I don't see any real or perceived attack on nomads or van dwellers or RVers.

In fact, some of the proposals on the form that you provided the link for, would benefit people living on the road, living in, staying in, or passing thru Texas.

I read the GOP 'platform' and there are valid AND questionable statements. But that's all they are. Statements. And many of the quotes were taken out of context.

Political issues and ideas are present in every US state. And one can always find a reason to avoid entering a state based on politics. Or not. But Texas is a LARGE piece of land and some people have to cross thru it in their travels across the USA. I just prefer to have some members here not be alarmed if they need to drive thru Texas and possibly camp for a night or two along the way.

My post here was offered as a point-counterpoint, since this document was called 'shocking'.

A balanced perspective is a good thing.

Politics is not a subject for the forum so this thread is closed
