Trailer section?

This is really directed towards the Admin's.
Is it possible to add a new section of this area? I guess not really so much "new" as just putting all related posts regarding Trailers under one umbrella like Van, Car, RV and Truck are.
Would really like to see a section dedicated to "Trailers".

Not a bad idea! I know that many posts are "universal" (van/bus/truck/trailer/etc), but there are issues that are vehicle specific.

How about a cargo trailer section...

I just double checked— yup, travel trailers are considered RVs. Just non-motorized RVs. I’ve never felt my travel trailer was left out of the RV classification.

I do sometimes feel that what was a forum with a wide view to vehicles has got pretty narrowly focused on vans. There are often threads started with a question to van dwellers that could easily apply to more or all kinds of full timers/part timers (not the fault of the forum, more just a users trend).

Go out to Quartzsite and you will see the true meaning of this forum. There is EVERY kind of RV, Van, Schoolie, Step Van, Car, and Tent, you will every see out there.

What no section for trailers? That is very odd because they do have special stuff about them such as a need for towing equipment including things such as weight and balance, possibly trailer brake controllers.

I agree, a trailer section would be great!

Sound deadening layer, then insulation, then a plywood subfloor. Vinyl is going on over that. The ply looks bendy in that photo, but it's an optical illusion.

The flashing tape + reflectix stripes actually help a lot with vibration and sound. I was surprised at how much sound it actually cut. It's probably not as good as those specialty sound deadening mats, but it works just fine for me.

I've left some gaps around the floor to fill with a flexible window sealing foam spray. I noticed that the van actually expands and contracts nearly half an inch all round (!) because of how difficult/easy it is to slot the foam insulation boards in, so it seems wise to make sure the floor can flex and breathe.

Now I pull that plywood out and put down mold prevention spray, and paint the subfloor with two coats of waterproof sealer before I install the full f

desire for that because before I joined this forum I belonged to a forum dedicated to my type of travel trailer and worked through the trailer specific issues there. My build thread is there too.

I've discovered that you can get an admin's attention by following these steps:
1. Begin your comment with "Hello Admin,"
2. Post your finished comment.
3. Click the little green "Report" button below your comment.
4. They will then reply, sounding honestly happy to help you.

But please respect the fact that their time is valuable.
Only use this technique for things they can appreciate.
It's not for play, or thoughts that serve no purpose.

There is also a Contact Us button at the bottom of every page, which allows you to communicate with moderators other than in a thread/thread post.

Every forum I’ve been on has this, and it goes directly to them.

I wish there was more for older vans like mine, a 24-year-old model where the high top was added.

Especially on YouTube, it seems VanLife has become about the latest $200,000 van models -- which is 100 times what I paid for mine -- that just rolled off their assembly lines, with high-tops already built-in, and outfitted with the latest in pre-fabricated home furnishings.

I find that hard to relate to.

No, probably just someone who needs to look a little harder to find the things on YouTube that interest you. Or just not worry that some people have fancier toys.

Seems I left a bit of a wrong impression. I'm neither lazy nor jealous. But I have the worrying impression that people -- as a whole -- are more and more turning away from some of the most important concepts of what vanlife was originally intended to be about.

If I could find it again, I'd post the comic that shows a large motorhome parked in front of the most beautiful mountains imaginable, with a large full moon shining down all around, and someone inside the rig says "What's on channel eight tonight?" Clearly, the artist who created that comic had the same thought I do.

Miscellaneous Vehicles​

Questions and discussions about living in other vehicles -- box/step vans, box trucks, buses, ambulances, military vehicles, cargo trailers, motorcycles, or anything else.

Not sure there was ever a single movement with a single goal. "Vanlife" seems like a pretty big-tent phenomenon (and from my limited exposure, it seems like if anyone has called dibs on the "vanlife" label, it might be the people at the richer end). Keep in mind too all the people who didn't have the luxury of pursuing a philosophical value, did it to survive, and then if they were lucky found some things they liked about it.

Materialism? Concerns about that go back to the guy who put the "D" in "A.D." (and no doubt earlier). Annoying content on YouTube? Probably goes back to an hour after the platform went live.

This morning I was watching a YouTube about peeing in a Gatorade jar in a Prius. It ended with the guy standing on a hoodoo yelling (jokingly) about women being able to pee standing up being the end of civilization as we know it. You know, we get access to such a huge amount of information and entertainment for free online -- clicking past the stuff we don't care for seems a small price to pay (as long as it's not hate speech or high-pressure sales). I'm just grateful for the people who share the good stuff.

Yes, and “vanliving” encompasses the many in automobiles, cargo trailers and other vehicles that are neither vans nor traditional RV’s.

And, it’s all good.

I tow a converted cargo trailer, but unless it is an issue specific to trailers, I see no reason for a specific forum section. Just like recently, someone wanted an "East Coast" section. If it was something specific to the east side of the US, I get that. But, most stuff posted here is of interest to me regardless of where you are or what you drive/tow. So, on the whole, I would rather not see the forum balkanized.

Excellent point.
It would make it extra hard to find what you are looking for if you had to check through a number of different categories to hopefully find it.

For example, a 12v water pump installation instruction for someone's trailer in Maine, might work just as well for someone driving a schoolie in New Mexico.

Well there are a few different sections, but no Trailer section which is odd since there is even a Hybrid/Electric section. Would make sense since that kind of build is very different. Lots of additional safety concerns and challenges vs a Van.

But I really don't think the new owners are looking to expand anything or enhance the forum. Just let it continue on as it always has, as Bobs vision but without Bob.
