    Palm Springs,CA car camping

Berdoo Canyon and the other BLM areas off Dillon Road are extremely trashed by target shooters and garbage dumpers. It's a 4x4 and ATV playground as well. I've seen drug deals and cars lit on fire up there, also seen hordes of mice running about on a warm winter night. Drug dealers' music at 3...

Cheap car camping south Florida ?

Per weatherspark, South Florida has warmer day temps, far warmer night temps, more sunshine and a similar chance of rain in winter compared to the "low desert" of western Arizona. (Look at Arizona weather now, barely in the 60s, rain wind and clouds. I've spent three winters in AZ and SoCal...

Keeping mosquitoes out with windows cracked?

I have swivel windows in the back of my van, and used the DEET spray on glass trick during my time in the buggy North woods last summer. It works well when the skeeters are few and lazy. When they are crazy with blood fever on those sweltering "heat dome" nights, DEET anywhere barely dissuades...

HELP: Condensation Problem & still very cold living inside my Truck Camper shell

If the morning dew is heavy, excess ventilation will actually increase interior condensation. But if the inside is damp and stuffy in the morning, then increasing ventilation is necessary. A hearty dinner and a plump sleeping bag should be what keeps you warm.

    Best vehicle for stealth camping?

I bought a maroon 2005 Nissan Quest, it is great for stealth. Ripped out the middle row captain's chairs and flipped the third row seat into its floorwell for a flat and spacious platform. No need for curtains or shades (which are 100% not-stealth). Everything is so low that the rear appears...

    Car Market is INSANE Now!

I had a tinge of buyer's remorse after impulse buying my 2005 minivan (with 122K miles) for $3400 back in April, as the "experts" predicted that the 30% spike in used car prices would soon crash. And now look, it's a 90% spike. The van had a few hidden surprises...when I brought it into Mexico...

    Starting from scratch

Hi folks, it's been a while. My "home on wheels" broke down last October. As a result, I decided to give the backpacking lifestyle a try. Took what I could carry and gave the rest away.  Pros: No registration, insurance, other responsibilities and worries of vehicle ownership. Less dependence...

    The negativity we are receiving

Sometimes they just don't want to get the "I'm broke down, can you lend me a thousand bucks" phone call. Those who make rejection of "normalcy" the primary driver for living a mobile life will find their own choices criticized in turn by friends and family. If your talk is all about freedom...

    noisy neighbors

In about 150 days of dispersed camping in a very popular vehicular recreation area last summer, I rarely had problems with noise during "quiet hours". Of course outside of quiet hours, it was a racket of ATVs and generators and yelling kids. If you can't handle noise without getting all ragey...

Bears & food storage in national parks

Wow, I had no idea bears were so crazy in the Yosemite area that they actually had to make it illegal to store food in a vehicle after dark. Keeping your car locked is common sense in bear country, but bears smashing windows to get at food is insanity.

    You are all gonna die!

It's crazy how superstitiously reverent some people are about dead bodies (corpse's rights?) A corpse is not a person any more than an empty beercan is a beer! Dying or already dead, I couldn't care less what happens to my corpse. Now as to what happens to consciousness / the soul, that'll be...

    Kratom on the road

Yes it doesn't go well at all with the typical fiber-deficient American diet (15 grams a day or even less). My daily diet contains 40 - 55 grams of fiber, so a few grams of kratom a day helps balance things out nicely. Tolerance buildup and dependency happen with some people. But many people...

    Kratom on the road

The use of mind-altering substances carries a great stigma in society, but let's face it; from coffee to alcohol to tobacco to cannabis to prescription meds, most of us are under the influence of some drug at least once in a while. So let's have an open discussion about them! Alcohol is one of...

    Do You Trust Law Enforcement?

Another point of consideration is that police in any local jurisdiction are specifically hired to protect and serve the interests of local taxpayers. Is this corruption? I don't think so. In a close-knit community, social justice often takes precedence over legal justice. Take the hypothetical...
