    Why?

At one point, I had a lot of stuff. Then we moved to a small apt, got rid of a lot of stuff, but rented a big storage place for the rest of it, which we didn't touch for a year+. Built a house and filled it up with all that stuff and more stuff. Got divorced, moved to a small studio apt and let...

    Newlyweds hitting the road!

Not that I have any experience with a small TT, but with two of you and the dog, I'd say the tow vehicle you would be looking for is a 3/4ton (250/2500) full-size van or the same in a truck with extended cab and a cap on the back. Congrats and good luck!

    Anxiety-Fear-Depression and the Civilized Mind

I missed this when you posted it, but I hope things have continued along this path. Good luck! 46 days sober today...

    Bikes

There's plenty of YouTube vids of how to right your bike after a tipover, search: How to Pick Up Your Motorcycle. Some of them show very slight, tiny people righting very big bikes...

Found out the hard way I don't like towing trailers.

I've gone on road trips with friends, towing motorcycles in an open landscaping trailer. Not bad. Definitely made gas stop choices based on the layout of the station, but never got into trouble not finding a suitable place to gas up. Mileage dropped precipitously, but the way to mitigate that...

    Bikes

People tour for months at a time with what they can pack on a bicycle. I've done motorcycle touring/camping a few times, but only out on the road a week each time. If I was thinking of living off either for an extended period, for sure I'd get a trailer. There's motorcycle trailers, like Bob's...

How much cast iron to take on the road?

I'll join the chorus: 12-14" skillet with a lid and a dutch oven. Cast iron, and the ability to bring it along, is what I would consider a big difference between vandwelling and backpacking. Well, and the whole van thing...

Rainy Day funds and the Credit card

I don't doubt that you are correct. And considering Almost There's post following your own, I will indeed need to be careful, read fine print, etc.... It may be that I just bite the bullet and get a regular credit card. And get it set up like Spaceman Spiff does, where the whole balance is paid...

Rainy Day funds and the Credit card

This is me. I have no credit cards. Won't get one until my life is in a better place and even then, it will be a secured credit card. The secured part will be my emergency fund, and the card used only in emergencies.* In this way, I am self-aware about staying out of debt and hopefully slowly...

    College?

Random thoughts on college: Sometimes, just having the paper for a 4-yr degree does matter. Mattered when I was rising up the ranks of my current job, mattered to a friend in the IT field when he was looking for a first job -- a tech company he started with didn't care if you had a tech degree...

    What do you sleep on?

Hammock. Until lately. Now a regular bed in a regular house... :(

    Van suggestions...

Just make sure at time you are signing loan papers that there is no penalty for early payoff... Eric832 -- middle ground might be to buy used from a dealership if they offer some kind of standard warranty. I was eyeballing a '11 Transit Connect recently at a local dealership. Not the same style...

Class A RV makes no $$ sense

Had I the cash, I would buy this Class A in a heartbeat: http://nh.craigslist.org/rvs/4994062032.html Before I'd even looked into the whole vandwelling thing, back when I was a we and we were thinking of hitting the road, planning a tiny house, we saw one of these stubby Class A RVs for sale...

I can't sleep in the van!!!!!!

I am among the lucky -- I can sleep anywhere, anytime, and loved sleeping in the van, even in different environments, from city to nature. Sirens might wake me, but only until they pass. Only thing in nature which got me eyes wide awake was a squirrel on the roof. ilovemyvan, what's waking you...
