    Tethered to your rig?

I didn't say i was "constantly afraid". I voiced legitimate concerns. No need for your condescending criticism. I'm glad you're so fearless though.

    Tethered to your rig?

I've always been a bit cautious, if not paranoid about leaving my rig for any amount of time more than a few hours.  I saw a post on Reddit that someone had their van torched to the ground while it was parked at a residence in Portland. There is talk of a serial arsonist in that area (though...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

Sitting here listening to my 'Police Scanner' app and i think its a very handy app to have on the road. Its nice to be able to get a heads up if there is anything going down in your area that you might want to be alerted to.

OR - mining in eastern Oregon

I'd love to lend a hand, just for the experience alone. Giving it my first go this year. If you're still at it by the time i make it through the area, and you're still looking for help i'll let you know.

    What are you reading?

I suppose its a matter of perspective. If you're looking for an allegory about the conflicts of masculine and feminine existence then it might not be your book. If you're looking for a book about life through the eyes of a group of cowboys then yes, it probably is realistic. There are other...

    What are you reading?

Since i'll be visiting the west soon. I bought a few classic westerns to inspire me a little. Shane: Terrific book, and can be read in a day or two at most. Its a wonderful blend of adventure, history, family and social dynamics of the era, and full of life lessons that can be taken to heart...

    Newbie

A caravan doesn't need to be "official" to continue or reform. This is still a great place to find like minded folks. I hope you find what you're looking for.

    Leaving loved ones behind.

Thanks for the inspiration, and i agree. We only live once. I just sat down and made a list of all the places i hope to visit along the way, and feel much more excited and willing. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. I hope you ge to visit Crazy Horse monument someday. I'm sure that you'll...

Yes, its crazy. Right around the time i was hoping to start my build. Couldn't believe it when i checked prices. Gonna have to wait for a while, which is fine. It was going to be a luxury anyways. Plenty of no build, build ideas out there in the meantime.

    Full Timers home state

Indeed they are. I didn't get to spend much time in the area the last time i went through that, but i'll be going through in a month or two and plan on exploring a lot of what it has to offer. Seems to be plenty of areas to boondock in as well. Don't forget about Deadwood a lot of history there...

Planning stages and time line of a newbie

I tried planning things out and making an itinerary, but i'm sure once i hit the road i will throw all of that out the window. Freedom is what its all about and i'm perfectly fine seeing where the road takes me. I won't have quite as much money as i'd hoped when i hit the road ($5k recommended)...

    Painting Over Windows w/ Tint

You know, i'll have to double check. Now that you mention it you're probably right. Its definitely not aftermarket. I would bet that its in the glass, and hence not going to be too difficult. I agree with what Slow2Day said, i will probably use acrylic/latex. It won't be too difficult to remove...

    24/7 Chat About Anything

You're welcome. :) Its a glimpse back in time, before much of this all began. Bob still even had a bit of color in his beard. lol You'll see Randy. Really cool guy, and definitely one i had hoped to meet at the RTR or something someday. Definitely not at the expense of his privacy though. I...

    Full Timers home state

Personally i would choose South Dakota. Its just a state that i think i would rather spend more time in. It's also pretty easy state in which to establish residence. For me, its also a pretty good spot to be equidistant to the areas i like to visit and my home state of Ohio. I-90 runs directly...

    Painting Over Windows w/ Tint

I've decided that i would like to completely black out the sliding door windows on my minivan, while using curtains on the back and rear. I've weighed the pros and cons and i am fine with them being completely opaque. I plan on using curtains on the side-rear and rear windows, held up by a...
