    The Sierra Nevada

It would be nice, but not mandatory. We both have dogs that will require a cool shady spot which is why Glass Creek looked pretty good. My Thor is a big husky-malamute with a thick double coat. This will be right after I pick him up from his flight from HI and I want to acclimate him a bit at...

    stranded/not enough cash for repairs

Hi Andy, 1. Yes I have been in this situation when everything fell apart at once - divorce, job loss, loss of home. 2. I enrolled in college using education and work grants and  applied for basic assistance as you have (food stamps) to see me through for a couple months until the paychecks...

    The Sierra Nevada

Thanks for the encouragement HDR. Glass Creek looks like a pretty nice spot from what I can find out, but I've never actually been there.  Your comment regarding tourists reminds me of my son.  He calls tourists the real terrorists.  ;)

    The Sierra Nevada

The only time I will cross the Great Salt Lake is at night. Been broke down twice there in the daytime due to overheating and even if moving, it's hellaciously (sp?) hot. I love to cross at night, the canopy of stars is amazing. It's a lonely crossing and also eerie, especially if listening to...

    The Sierra Nevada

Awesome!  You're making excellent time.  At this rate you should be in Salt Lake City area tomorrow and should reach Reno the day after.  Most camping sites are quite a ways off I-80 around Salt Lake, but this looks good and is close to I-80 if you want quiet and pretty: 1. Rockport State Park...

Might have a new travel companion soon

The one thing he does that I've never seen before is he'll only do his # 2 on a bush.  Even if it's two feet high, he'll prop his butt up there hind legs off the ground and does his business. LOLOL Thanks for a great post, especially this part!  Glad he's working out. My Thor was on...

    The Sierra Nevada

Yogi, I'm currently in Rapid City, SD area and the big Sturgis bike rally starts this coming week. There are tons of motorcycles everywhere here already.  No doubt that's why you're seeing so many bikes on the highway right now!    Sounds like we're going the same way.  I'm heading to Wyoming...

Yogi!!!!! LOL I have been WONDERING where you went to! So glad you made it!!! Me too! I will be in Southern CA in September (have to go to LA and pick up my big ol' boy, Thor)  Let's try to meet up somewhere? I have to be in LA on Sept 12, but want to hot foot it out of that area.  Maybe we can...

    had the fuel neck replaced

Sounds like you are making sure and steady progress on the van. :)  Hot, humid weather always take my energy levels down too. Early mornings and evenings only for chore times. The middle of the day is for sipping ice tea on the porch. Sounds like Buster is a true, blue friend.

Living for free 365 days straight.....does it exist?

I would imagine a  :s  ghost town  would be an ok place to park year round.

    'At Last'

This was Kingsley's favorite sight to see today...a monument that looked like a giant dog bone treat lol We actually went to see Bear Lodge aka Devil's Tower. Nice little campground there too.

    Lighting Storms and Vandwelling safety

I was camped at McConaughy Lake in Nebraska a couple weeks back and was in a wingding of a lightning storm like I've NEVER experienced. The closest analogy I can give was that it was like being right in the center of the grand finale of a gigantic 4th of July fireworks display, absolutely...

Why a van and not something else?

I visited a fellow nomad's Class C recently, and was surprised at how roomy and comfy it was. Had a full bed, a very adequate working kitchen, tables and seating that was reconfigurable depending on how many in the family went on trips and it was definitely tall enough to stand up in.  Had all...

Looking for input on the Prepping mindset

Unless it's water or lava or a Katrina level hurricane coming at you and forcing a move, it's better to hunker down.  Keep a couple weeks of food and fuel on hand, have a gas or kero stove, candles, lamps and you'd be fine.  Good to have a chainsaw too, to cut your way out of fallen trees. One...
