[*This Is A Bit Long*]
Moved to Oregon to be caregiver to my parents since 2001. I became a full time caregiver in 2007 since my mother's passing. My father had a minor stroke at the beginning of that year. So sadly, I lost part of my dad to dementia. I remained his son and helper.
My brother passed shortly thereafter, so additional support to help sort of went out the window.
Now my dad has passed a few years back and I am dealing with loss and being the last leaf on our branch of the family tree.
It's amazing how many things I need(ed) to deal with in the wake of all this. I finally have a chance to start a new life for my very own, but it seems like such a foreign concept. I have cousins scattered throughout the U.S. and I no longer have any real anchors to keep me in one place.
I would love to pare down a lot of remaining "stuff" and just be my own person. It would be great to live nomadically, yet my #1 concern is sustainable income to provide for me and my vehicle while reducing my liabilities. [OMGosh - Soooo much crud!]
I am currently using my (newer) van for food delivery while I am surfing the wave of the Gig Economy. It's working well so far, but I don't know how long this will last. I'm open to other gig work, but I need to find what will be a good fit.
I could start collecting SS early, but I am currently waiting. I now own and live in a mobile home that needs many repairs and to be cleaned out. [What a collective mess!]
It's great that I own the home, but the space rent is just a syphon. I could use the money on living every day instead of being enslaved to this debt every month.
I need to figure out the workability of nomadic living and (training for?) remote work. I would love to hear good input.
If you're going to be in Oregon (or would like to share your insights), I would enjoy hearing from you.
