I use cast iron on my butane stove all the time.  Biggest concern is it states on the butane stove pots can't be bigger than 8 inches in diameter. A bigger size can cause the butane container to overheat and explode.  So I got myself a smaller dutch oven.  I also have a little cast iron griddle...

To visit the National Parks starting immediately after the RTR you will want to visit those in the south first.  After last year's RTR I went directly to Joshua Tree National Park in Calif.  The weather was great then for visiting that park.  Just plan to visit the more southern parks first...
